Default Tire size help

I just purchased a new set of wheels for my vert which are 18 front 20 rear so will it be alright to put my 275\40\18 on the front and put 275\35\20 on the rear are would it be the best to put 285\30\20 on the rear this is the largest mich. makes for the (pilot sport as) which i have new all of the way around now so i would like to stay with this tire if i could.

Thanks for all the help

Randy

if you go to www.1010tires.com and click on "technical" then "tire calculator" you can compare the tires - specifically the diameters.

The 285 30 20 are less than a half inch bigger in diameter than the 275 40 18's. Many people on this forum maintain that you SHOULD keep a diameter difference on aprox 1 inch ( close to stock) between front and back to avoid POSSIBLE problems with TC and active handling.

Some people ( including me) don't think you need that big a difference.
I'm running 265/40/18 fronts and 285/40/18's rear with no problems.

If you want to err on the side of caution go with the 35's -- they maintain a diameter difference closer to stock.

Or, better yet, go play with the tire calculator and see what set up you think would work best for you.

Diameters aside, your set-up will look goofy because the front tires will have more rubber visible due to their greater sidewall height. This is true for either of your choices. Of course, that may not bother you at all. What sre the widths of your wheels?

The wheels i purchased are 18\9.5 front and 20\10.5 rear EVO 775 chrome.
wcc sells these wheels for a whole lot more than i paid for them and they recomend 265\275\35\18 front and 275\285\30\20 rears so the the stock size on my car are 245\45\17 front and 275\40\18 rear so i want to run 275\40\18 front and 275\35\20 rears so that makes the rears 0.91 biger than the fronts so will it work and not mess up the TC on my car.

Thanks Randy

Thanks the web site you told me to go to is great if i stay with the 275\40\18 front and the 275\35\20 rear it makes the rear diameter 0.91 biger so that is closer to stock and should work i hope.

Thanks Randy

I just bought a set of Evo Rims as well 18 x 9.5 and 20 x 10.5 and I am going with the 265 35 18 in the front and 285 30 20 in the rear. Going with a 275 in the front will be ok just wider but if you do a 275 in the rear the tire is going to bulg on the sides and the side walls will curve in towards the tred. I have a Z06 and the rear rim is 10.5 and it rruns a 295 so by putting a 275 on the 10.5 Evo is taking it down 2 sizes. I wish I could get a 295 30 20 but like you said 285 is the biggest for the rim as far as I know.

I am going with 275/35/18 front and 285/30/20 rears in the mich pilot sport AS just like what i have now in the stock size. I think they are the best tire you can buy but i wasnt wanting to buy 4 new ones but i did any way and cant wait to get them put on in the next couple of weeks so it looks like i will have a set to stock wheels and tires for spares.
what tire are you putting on your car and post some pics when you get them on and i will do the same.

I ended up going with the BFG G force T/A KDW same sizes as you except 265 on the front instead of 275. I have heard some good things about them but will wait and see. Will try and post some pics when I get them mounted.
