19MM.

If your rims are in good shape I'd either invest in a set of good nylon coated lug sockets.

They come in the standard lug nut sizes, 17, 19, and 21/22. They have an outer coating so as not to scratch up your rims.

A cheap alternative is to cover the outside with blue painters tape.

3/4" works just fine, there is only .002" difference.

At the risk of unleashing the wrath of the "Snap On is too expensive" cabal… if you always use a 6-sided Snap On socket, because of its flankdrive, you should never damage the chrome on a chrome lug nut. While chromium is one of the hardest materials out there, it is also very brittle. When the corners of a nut are in contact with a normal socket (or wrench) they will distort and can crack the brittle chrome. Since the Snap On socket doesn't touch the corners, only the flank of the lug nut, there is little chance of cracking the chrome. (A 12-sided socket will work too; I just prefer the 6-sided for even less chance of damage.)

By the way I'm not suggesting that everyone go out and purchase a set of Snap On tools, I realize that not everyone "likes" them. But if you have a Snap On socket for your lug nuts, you can use any ratchet and extension to power it. Oh, and if you go to Lowes and purchase a Kobalt socket for your lug nuts (about half the Snap On price) you get the same benefit of flank drive... Kobalt is a subsidiary of Snap On.

Good luck… GUSTO

Regular 3/4 works but a deep one would be better. I'll have to try my deep 19mm

LOL at the pic

I own a couple of Snap On parts. Big one is their spark plug socket, thinner walls than the Craftman or others and easier to get in certain places.

I still use my Harbor Freight cheapo nylon coated 19mm for the wheels, but mine came pre-scratched. If I was starting new I would look for the item to do the least amount of damage, which in most cases, is the person taking the wheel off.

I am guilty of not waiting for the impact to stop spinning before removing it from the wheel.

Please don't use your torque wrench to change your lug nuts, just to properly torque them. Using it as a general-purpose socket drive will result in the need for frequent re-calibration.

As has been noted above the standard C5 lugnuts are 19mm.
