I just had a rear end leak fixed (Differential) and while they had the back end out they replaced all the front and side seals since most of the charge was in the labor. I now have a leak in a different spot and it is a GOLD/YELLOW COLOR and it smells like burning bearing grease. I took it back and they said they could not find a leak, But when i leave it over night it leaves a smal puddle on a white board I put on under the car. The location seems to be right behind the seats and to the right. When I told the mechanic it had a gold/yellow color he just looked at me like I was crazy. What could this be and where could it be coming from.
not being a mechanic..gears for what. I thought trans fluid was reddish. Would this be part of the differential? When it was dripping is looked and smelled different?

I should have said rear differential fluid(rear end) its yellowish, gold in color when new and has a strong smell and its kind of thick. And trans fluid is red, mostly in automatics and now in some manual trans.
I talked with the mechanic and they said the vent tube is in the trans and not the diff. Does anyone have picture of the vent on the diff? I still don't know where this liquid is coming from.
There is a vent on the trans but there is also one on the diff. It is located on the top of the case in front of and to the right of the speed sensor when viewed from the rear

Its a bad sign if your mechanic doesn't know there's a vent on the rear diff. Gold/yellow fluid definitely sounds like Gear oil.
Let us know what you find

Get a different mechanic, or get a price break for educating your current one! As mentioned, there are two vents, one for the tranny and one for the diff. My guess is you've got an overfilled tranny.
