I've heard nuff about the NGK TR-55s. I wanna know if changing my original plugs (on 99 C5, what ever they are) to NGK will make ANY difference? If no, then there's no reason for me to change now. If yes, then what's the best/easiest way to do it? I hear a few plugs are real hard to change and get to....
you may notice a difference only due to the fact that the factory delco plugs suffer from losing the platinum "puck" from the tip of the plug, when that happens it opens up the spark gap and could cause some performance issues.
depending on how many miles are on your '99, I would say change them just for the piece of mind!
it can't hurt......
for under $14.00 a set, I change my TR-55's just about every year, It's part of my spring tune up.
I've been happy with the Platinum +4's, and, the Platinum Series spark plugs in general, since the early nineties on all my Vettes. NGK is also a fine spark plug. However, I use the NGK's primarily on all my bikes. Moreover, as an affordable low cost alternative and value, the NGK's TR55's are great. Good luck to you.
there's nothing better than a good old fashoned copper plug for performance! that's why I'm using NGK TR-55 plugs, and the NGK plugs only cost about $13.00 for the set, as opposed to the Bosch +4's that cost about $13.00 each!

An explosion is not an explosion. A lot of Research is done by oil companies and fuel additive companies to try and obtain a more uniform flame front in the combusiton chamber to increase complete combustion....
Incomplete combustion is why catylitic converters exist and so many Forum members worry about passing a sniffer (SMOG) test.
The more uniform the flame front, the more complete the combustion ... the more power and less residual hydrocarbons.
Racers have been using "cutback" plugs for years to increase horsepower. That is the theory behind the +4's 4 cutback electrodes to unshroud the spark and permit more complete combustion.
Whether it works is another matter...
I agree 100% but only in a race application. I've also seen ware people go so far as to shim or machine the spark plugs so the electrode is in the same prime location for all cylinders. As far as a stock ls1 you won't see any results and depending on the heat range and gap you could loose power. I just use TR55's. Their cheep and I've had good luck with them. But since their copper, they don't last as long.

Your talking about indexing your plugs,It gets rid of the spark shrouding (flame kernal blocked, misdirected away from the a/f mixture.
This helps a lot.
I did it it first thing, when I got my 93 Firebird, 94 z-28. 98 SS and 02 Zo-6. It does help your ignition.Helps noticibly each and every time,
One of the best free mods. Lt-1 the ls-1, ls-6.
All love indexing. Jacob's has dyno'd 1-1/2 hp
per cly.
J.C.Whitney used to sell Spark Plugs 40 years ago that gained you 25HP and 35 MPG. Perhaps they still list them in their catalog. I think if you installed their mini supercharger you gained an addl 25 H.P.
Oh, by the way I have Bosch Plugs in my C5 but only because they were on sale!
OGC5
... and the NGK plugs only cost about $13.00 for the set, as opposed to the Bosch +4's that cost about $13.00 each!
These plugs are not recommended by Bosch for the LS6, so I have never used them and don't want to jump in the debate.
But, for those that don't realize it, you can get Bosch Plugs and Micro Edge Wiper Blades from AMSOIL. Cost for the +4s is less than half that quoted above, and less than that for AMSOIL Preferred Customers.
Bosch part# for the +4s for the C5 via AMSOIL is B4458
Bosch Micro Edge Wiper Blades part# for the C5 via AMSOIL is B40922
Orders via my dealership (link in sig) benefit my raceteam and the forum.
