Default Noisy steering wheel

Anyone know how to get rid of this annoying whining that my steering wheel emits when turning? I've been told to apply white lithium grease but not sure where to apply it. Steering column in engine bay, or driver compartment? I once saw this link here on the forum to the instructions but haven't been able to find it today. Please help, cuz it's annoying.

Default Found the problem

Ok, since my last post. I pinpointed where the noise was coming from. It is along the steering column (passenger side) right at the firewall. There is a plastic sensor or part that encircles the steering column. It's definately coming from there. Does anyone know what part that is? Was not able to lube it. aaggghhhh

I have the same problem, almost sounds like a moaning sound but it isn't coming from my wife. She just laughs at it. Any help out there?

I have the same problem. The dealership told me what it was but i can't think of it right now. I'll look it up later. I do remember it was like $300 to fix it though.

Had the same problem. Will drive you crazy. The guy Bill Heard sprayed it with something about 8 to 10 months ago and have not had the problem since. They did it under the hood. Not from inside the car. Hope this helps.

First buy a can of that white grease and you will need the long red needle to get to it.

I went under the driver side steering wheel from inside the car. If you have the keys in the ignition to move the steering wheel left and right you can pin point the noise and spray it with the can.

You have to move a rubber piece up as much as you can. Not easy just a little tug. Just spray as much as you can and then use your fingers to spread the grease around. Turn the steering wheel back and fourth till the noise goes away.

Believe me it drove me crazy. I could not do it from the engine bay.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Cheers!!

Hey, help. does your noise sound like it's under the hood/outside the car? maybe passenger side? I have that same noise. In the parking garage at work, it just moans, sounds awful, like something's rubbing, and it's getting worse.

Are you guys just saying the lithium gresae will do it? Any dealerhip fix? I've only got 8k miles on mine.

The moan you are talking about is actually coming from the driver side under the steering wheel.

Just turn you car engine off and lay on your back with your ear by the brake pedal. Turn the steering wheel back and fourth. You should hear it.

Default Fixed it.

I was able to pinpoint the noise coming from the steering shaft/column behind the rubber panel along the firewall (driver side, inside). With one finger, I pushed back the rubber panel to gain access to the steering shaft/column. It's a bit difficult. As my finger was inserted as a wedge, I inserted the red tube from the white lithium grease and sprayed the shaft. To my amazement, it worked. I almost cried. I haven't heard the noise since.

This forum is great! My steering wheel has moaned for almost 3 years now, and I just did the lithium grease spray this morning. IT WORKS! Took all of 90 seconds...should have done it sooner!!!
