My beautiful nuts...

OK, this is probably a dumb question...the lug nuts on my ZO6 seem to have what looks like little plastic covers on them. What's visible doesn't look like it would be too happy being torqued on. Do I just stick the socket in and go, or do these things actually come off??

They are plastic caps. Just twist on them and they come off. They suck and I would loose them all the time so I bought some chrome lug nuts and they look 100 times better.

Awsome! Thanks for the quick reply...I guess then they just screw on to the exposed end of the stud. I'm gonna go out and pop one off now and check!

Yeah...the factory lugs have an external thread on 'em to accomodate the plastic covers. No wonder they cost five bucks each from the stealership!

Eureka! And, yes, the famous "Stealership Corvette Tax". However, they do serve their purpose.

Time for some chrome lugs and locks. Most of the forum wheel vendors sell them for about 25-30 dollar$ for a 4 wheel set. One of the few Corvette Bargains - if you don't mind the contrast with your wheels.
