i have oil gunk on only one of my spark plugs. anyone have this problem? do you think its a valve stem seal? can i tell its a bad valve stem seal by looking at them on the head
Not sure if you posted a photo, but it didn't come out. I had a lot of problems with valve seals on a Nissan once, they were aftermarket. They kept popping off of the valve guide and would ride with the valve stem and not seal at all. Car used a ton of oil. Pop the valve cover and look for any seals that look like they are not down all the way. Have you contacted Brian about this (I see you have TEA heads)? With aftermarket springs, they are likely running the pre-2002 valve seal design, which is a press on fit.
I didnt call brian but the seals look seated real good. i did buy some aftermarket seals from TR to see if that fixs the problem, just wondering if anyone else had this kind of problem and what they did to fix it. i actually had oil on the spark plug wire too

I had an oil saturated plug (cyl #2), needed to swap valve springs anyway. So did them both and havene't seena sign of oil leakage yet.
Now oil on the plug wire, could be from a nick in the valve cover gasket, or worst case through the plug threads. How bad does a plug look after 30 miles or so? Plug go in the threads with good feeling, or is it pretty loose?

i just found this problem the other day so i havnt been driving cause the car was running real crappy. so i wanna fix this before i drive the car. the plug screws in nice and tightly though.
Guess I am confused, where is the oil on the spark plug, on the outside or inside the combustion chamber? If its the outside, I would check the valve cover gasket. Which spark plug? If its number 2 or 4, then also check you PCV hoses and make sure everything is on correctly.

oil is on the inside of the cylinder on the plug tip. but there was oil on the plug wire too, that might of came from somewhere else. im gonna change the valve stem seals and hope that fixs the problem. if not im lost
