On a 2001 Convertible A4, I checked for trouble codes using "hold 'options' and press 'fuel' 4 times" and I pulled up about 11 codes but every one of them end with an "H". My question is, Does that mean these codes are past problems and there are no current problems? Thanks
Before I bought mine a few months ago, I did the same procedure as you. I almost didnt buy the car because I found so many codes even though they were all H codes. So I asked the same question as you here on this forum. I leanred that all my codes delt with the Left and Left Door Control Module, and Radio. Come to find out, anytime you disconnect the battery, all the control modules lose their connection with the doors, seats, mirrors, radio...blah blah blah. And this sets the codes. I also had one PCM code that was for a faulty O2 sensor which I replaced immediately for 60 bucks and it went away. Hopefully, this is what happened to yours!
You may want to write them all down, determine what they are, reset them all and see if they come back. I get a code that the radio lost connection with the pcm or something like that, but apparently this is pretty common and means nothing.
So to answer your question, yes and no. The H stands for history and the C stands for current. Since yours are all H, this means that the problem isnt currently happening. However, this doesnt mean that the problem is gone...many codes have to fail a certain test a few times before it turns a MIL or check engine ligh on. I pull two codes that are like this. The AIR system bank 2 DTC comes on once every week or so and I need to get it fixed. I also get a Desired Torque DTC but usually only comes back once a month if that.
