It has been discussed a ton and you will get a ton of different answers.
I race both 1/4 mile and road courses and the GM ones work just fine. I order them at a case at a time from FredBeans (I probably use that amount per year).

How do you know? Really, as long as no problems are experienced with any filter, how do any of us know how good they are or how well do they work. It's possible that a filter could have an internal leak and not really "filter", as well it could get stopped up early and go on bypass. A couple of years ago an engineer who got screwed by a Fram filter realized the above and methodically cut up several brands of filters to see what they were like inside. In short, he thought the standard AC filter was pretty good, while a lot of others were very cheaply made.

As mentioned above, AMSOIL just released a totally new line of filters with nano technology that supposedly has near 100% efficiency while maintaining excellent flow. I just read about them yesterday.
I've been reading a bunch about this today and have looked at three different studies for three different applications. And I was shocked at how poorly some filters I've used tested.
But the one conclusion I've walked away is this: Purolater Pure One seems to regularly be at the top or very near the top of all filters. That is, unless they've cheapened their design since the study. If so, then I'll just stick to the Amsoil filters and oil.
I have settled on Mobil 1 Extended Life filters, in fact, I use two of them.
I have just received my annual oil analysis from Blackstone Labs. They rate my oil as being in A+ condition. They commented on the low level of insolubles, and how my filtration system is doing a great job. And because I am running dual filters in parallel, I have the best of both world's, small particle filtration without restricting the flow of oil to the engine.
I like the K&N oil filters too, and I have the oil analysis results to show they are doing a great job. On a high performance engine that is driven hard, it's much more critical to have a free flowing oil filter like the K&N, compared to one that filters out the smallest of particles like the Mobil 1.
