The mechanical portion not mating properly on the back side? Possible broken/damaged wire(s) when the plug was unplugged?

all the pins nice and straight sometimes when you remove
the connector they will get bent. Also the contacts on the mating
connector sometimes get weak and you can use a dental pick to
bend them to increase the tension.
