Default Headlights Flicker

Just a quick question about the headlights. Last night I noticed that they would periodically flicker, not just dim, but turn on and off quickly, is this due to a bad ground or connections? Both headlights seemed to do it at the same time, meaning they both flickered together. Furthermore, I could not duplicate the flickering by going over bumps or making sharp movements. It seemed totally random. Whats the possible causes? If its a bad ground, where is the ground located so I can clean it up and tighten it? If you guys need more info, let me know as i am pretty much logged in all the time!

I've noticed that mine either dim or flicker sometimes and I've seen others post the same thing. More than likely you don't have anything to worry about.

Mine dim when rolling upt he windows (when the windows get to the top and are fully closed). I assume this is just due to current draw from the window motors on the batter/alternator. I don't think the lights should flicker. You might check the forward most ground points on your car. I'm sure you can find a diagram on the forum (I would scan it and post it if I had the manual with me).

Thanks for the replies. Yea, mine dim when the windows are moving and if you can actually watch the voltage drop on the DIC while your rolling up your windows...but like i said mine actually flicker on and off super quick. I sent Bill Curlee a PM to see if he can give some helpful points. I have the service manuals but have never used them...i think i will check there too!

Thanks guys!!

But since he's not here yet, I'll try and help...

But I think you shouldl just check your physical connections as well (fuses and relays)

Good luck... keep us posted

Mine used to do this, one of the battery terminals was loose. Tightened it, no more problems.

Mine started doing this after I changed to a new battery, thought terminals were loose.I tightened them as beat I could without stripping them, still flickered........

It was all my lights,tailights.interior..the works, they were just not as obvious as the headlights

After more in-depth investigating,I found that my new exide-orbital battery's terminal were tapped just slightly shorter than the original. This rendered terminal bolts slightly too long, therefore would not cinch up well, even though terminals were tight as h$%&!!

Test it by grabbing the terminal when tightened, and see if you can rotate it with relative ease.If you can, you may have the same problem I did.

The fix for me was to add a copper washer to each terminal( I tucked it under the plastic insulator part so it wasn't falling out everytime I removed a cable)
Now when tight, it is "tight". No more problem!

Not sure if this is your problem, but if it helps ANYONE,it is positive
It is, most likely ,a connection/ground somewhere though

Thanks everyone for your help! I checked the negative battery cable and terminal. Sure enough the screw/post was loose so I threw a wrench on 'er and tightened it...NO flickering ever since! Beautful!
