Default C5 Pinging

I have a 2000 C5 coupe, automatic, with 50,000 miles. Recently, it started pinging under little or no acceleration. I have replaced the 4 O2 sensors, fuel filter & air cleaner, & used top end cleaner. The plugs seem to be in excellent condition. Fuel pressure is good and the injectors pass the 400ms/fuel pressure drop test. The computer shows no codes. Anybody have a sugestion as to what I should check next?

Have you tried different gas?
Recently I got some bad stuff.
I have heard of puting diesel in the wrong tank (station).
Yes it really happened!

If it wasn't for the little or no accelration I'd suggest you check your exhaustsystem for a loose hanger ..

Under heavy acceleration most C5's have a rattle that can be misdiagnosed for pinging that originates in the stock H pipe.

Whether or not it's bad gas, or whatever, I got tired of fooling around with mine and simply backed the timing off about 4 degrees and viola, no more "ping". Vette still runs like a scalded cat too.

The catalytic coverters might be clogged.

I too am having a pinging or a jingling type sound in my 99 coupe (stock) I have just taken it to a muffler guy and he couldn't find any thing in the exhaust system.. it kinda sounds like it is coming from under the motor , I was under it also with the muffler guy,, we are both puzzled.. any suggestions.. will a blocked cat cause it to ping/jingling..?

10% mix is ok by fed standards at all gas stations .
One of our customers that owns a gas station told me that.

Thanks for the info about the rattling of the stock H pipe. I got into it the other nite with a GSX-600R. He would not leave me alone so I finally gave him some back. I noticed when I was in 2nd or 3rd gear at about 4000-6000 RPM that I heard what I thought was pinging. I have never ran my C5 this hard that long. It was about a mile or so, only at the higher rev's. Is there anything I can do to the stock H pipe to cure this sound? I have a 99 coupe M6.

With a Predator, or similar hand-held 'tuner'.

Loosen the distributor and turn clockwise about 1/4 of an inch. Use a timing light and make sure to chalk the timing pulley so it can clearly be seen.

I agree with the others,it probably not pinging,if it was pinging that bad, your PCM would switch over to the "low octane tables",this reduces the timing quit a bit, from 28* down to 18* - 21* iv'e seen on my scanner.
If your pinging in the low tables, theres something pretty wrong.
Your using at least 92 octane i'm assuming.

BTW, don't forget to remove and cap the vacuum line going to the vacuum advance canister on the distributor before you start.
