Default New Pistons & Rings

Hi everyone, my car went in for warranty work regarding the oil consumption issue with the 01 vettes...(after 5 weeks of the car sitting in the shop its finally time to get it back) i pick it up tomorrow evening or the day after....are there any numbers i should get from them to make sure everything is done properly...i think they replaced a piston and the rings....(i spoke to one of my friends and he said i should get some compression ratio's etc...i didnt know what he was talking about thats why i thought id ask here on the forum) anything i could get to ensure the work has been done right???

Thanks in advance,
Bicky Dhadwal

Just make sure you track you oit usage until you ae sure the problem is fixed, a lot of folks out here have found that even after the "fix" it doesn't help the first time.

Get a compression test done, especially if the dealership did not do one and/or did not provide you the exact results. This would be worth doing by a non-dealership, shouldn't cost you more than an hours labor. This test will give you the compression and leakdown specifics for each cylinder. You want to make sure they are all in spec, and not too different one from the other. This involves removing the spark plugs, putting a pressure gauge in the spark plug hole, and using a remote starter to roll the engine over to the compression stroke.

Good Luck!

I would suggest you put at least 1000 miles on the engine to allow the new rings to seat if you intend have a compression test done.

However I don't think I'd even bother with the test - I don't think the high rpm ring flutter that causes oil consumption is detectable by this method.

And surely you're not questioning the work of Mr. Goodwrench???

No this test would show good even before the new oil rings-
