It is when you remove the air cleaner cover and hold the filter down in place using zip ties. IMHO not worth the risk of the filter coming off. Just get a 03' Z06 cover or drill holes in your cover.
Well I have the thing off now, and I honestly cant see how they could have designed a more restrictive shroud.
Massive lump of plastic in a basically blind space. Even chopping a dirty great hole in it (as above) is not that great, as it is up against the front bumper.
Anyhow I will do that, and cut some holes in the foglamp housing - my poor baby is suffocating in there..
I cut holes in the air box lid at first but when I put it back on it didn't seem to let anymore air in just by looking at the position it was facing. I then read about the zip tie mod and just happened to have some extras laying around after my heating and air ducting work in my basement. I discarded the cover and went with this design. I also removed my fog light panels and cove vent covers. Now the zip tie mod is not the prettiest you ever seen but I am the only one that will ever know. Just make sure you tighten those zips very tight. Overall it seems to pull alot better through the RPM range after doing this. Best of all it is free!
I did the zip tie on my 02 Z06 with a K&N and used commercial sized (HUGE) zip ties and the install looked clean. Honestly I couldn't really tell a difference in how the car felt. I just recently upgraded to a Halltech TRIC system and that is a different story. That is a true seat of the pants difference!
As you can see in SGT. PYLE's pics, he has hood weather stripping at the front, if you don't have it, it's possible that water will drip directly onto the filter.
