Royal Purple, Amsoil, and Redline are all great brands and have the additive already in them. Just make sure you get 75w90 weight oil. The GM oil doesn't have the additive in it ahead of time and that's why you have to buy a 4 oz. container separately. All work very well in their own right. I personally run Royal Purple in my car and was very impressed with how much quieter it was after the oil change. I also captured and measured the oil when it came out. (only 1 quart came out! ) I'm definitely glad I changed mine. Good luck with yours and let us know how it goes.
The Mobil 1 is the most conveniently, within reach brand I have found. I will go with that. It says no additive needed.. I'm wondering about that now. Fully sythetic gear oil.. What do you guys think
I went with the purple stuff in my differential and trans and after 1400 miles I have noticed the rear is quieter and the trans shifts eaiser than before.
Should I use GM's brand plus an additive or is there a better alternative to use without having to use an additive. I've read that if you use the GM brand you have to use an additive. WTF?..
I use AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 (AMSOIL product SVG) on the track and my diff has held up through three seasons of abuse (still original stock unit). This fluid comes with the additive in it and I do not add any extra as my diff doesn't chatter. But, on some very new cars, the diff may chatter and adding a few ounces of the AMSOIL Slip-Lock Differential Additive will not hurt the diff. Ordering info in my sig.
