Should I use GM's brand plus an additive or is there a better alternative to use without having to use an additive. I've read that if you use the GM brand you have to use an additive. WTF?.. I have not had any problems with my differential so far. I'm scared it will leak if I start jacking with it. Yeah I know It has to be done though. Has anyone tried a sealer with a diff oil change? Is there such a product?

I don't have the knowledge or experience to recommend one brand of fluid over another. However, Red Line makes (at least) two types of gear oil that are supposedly suitable for the C5. Their 75W90 already contains the limited-slip additive in the "correct" proportion for the C5. You can also get their 75W90NS and their limited slip additive and mix your own. I chose the 75W90 route so I didn't have to try getting the ratio right. Just changed tranny and diff fluids for the first time last weekend, so I don't have enough miles on the change yet to comment on better or worse. I don't think any of the premium synthetics will cause your diff to start leaking, if it wasn't already. And, I don't know of one that has a sealer included. Seems like that might gum up the works, if you get my drift.
I just changed the Diff. oil last weekend. I went with Mobil 1 synth. 75w-90 and limited slip add. Going to check the 6 speed tomorrow. After I go out for a Saturday morning tire burn of course. We are all clear here. Zip tied and loving it!
When it comes to oil for my car... I only use Brands that I trust. the bigger the company, the deeper the pockets... the happier I am.
So its Mobil/Exxon (one organization)
or Shell/QuakerState/Pennzoil (one organization)
for me....
Make sure your car is level when you fill. Leave it down about 1/8" or so from the fill hole. If you overfill it will come out the vent and make a mess.
I just put in Royal Purple on Thursday night (thanks for the help Chris!!!) and ive had no problems at all. Im happy with it. I had about 61k on the clock before I changed it out. The fluid in there from before (factory) was still doing very good...didnt need to change it afterall..o well, doesnt hurt..
Gentleman,
Can you get RED LINE diff oil at major discount auto parts stores? If so please provide names of the stores. In addition how much oil is required.
