Default Reprogram Tire Pressue Sensor problem...

I had new Bridgestone Portenza S-03s put on today, very nice tires!

Anyway I followed the intructions in Tech Tips to reprogram my tire pressure sensors in my 04 coupe. The first three reset, but the last wheel, the left rear refuses to respond to the magnet. Do I have a bad sensor or am I doing something wrong?

this may sound stupid...drive it a bit and try again...unless they F'd up the sensor during install it should work now like it did before

Default Drive It, Then Try

for some odd reason, go drive it (10 -15 min) then retry,
no idea why, just works for me!

I'll try a bigger magnet today. I'm getting worried however, as I drove it 40 miles last night, and got a big "tire pressure monitoring system needs maint" error.

The tire place inflated the tires to 45-50psi ("to seat the tires"), so I'm wondering if it is possible to damage the sensor with too much pressure.

Wow -- "seat the tires."

If they did not, they could very well have jammed the sensor. If the magnet worked on the other three, it should work on the fourth.

My guess is you now have a broken sensor.

Yea I tried a bigger magnet, again works fine on the first three, no response from the 4th. I concur it's a broken sensor.

Now I'll have to see how the discussion with the tire guy goes...

Not to assume anything but did you give that wheel enough time to set? One of my wheels took a good 45-90 seconds to set.

I believe there is a little centrifugal switch in the TPMs that are supposed to turn on at a low miles per hour. This saves on battery usage time. I had one TPM that was not reporting the other day, so I found a clear stretch of road and took it up to 80. Tire pressure for that wheel then came on on the DIC.
