was the Torco can one that you bought? How is it that one would have Torco cans 2 years of age sitting in their garage? Did you get the can from someone else? Have you ever run Torco before? Sorry, the story sounds strange. I see 2 variables, one you say that you poured in a half can of Torco, and two, that you just started up your car. If I were to bet, the belief that the Torco can was the culprit is wrong. How many gallons did you mx the half can with?
sorry, re-read your post. You mixed a half can with 3 gallons of gas at best. A little steep on the Torco. Your effort to add 12 gallons later was a good idea, but you still have a pretty stiff mixture in your fuel line and needs to be burned through before the more correct mixture is fed. The directions are our friends and would have helped here.
Hmmm, I will try to eliminate the sarcasm from my opinion.
I would fill up the tank, run that tank completely out, then put in some new gas. Reset my codes and see what happens.
I induced a foreign substance in my gas tank on a C5 and same problems started happening. I bought two engine treatments produced by the same company. The bottles looked similar and I accidentally poured the oil product in the gas. Oh, boy what a shock when I discovered what I had just done. :o
Once I had the run through the second tank every thing cleared up. Hope same happens for you.
I had a dyno scheduled so I thought I might benefit from adding 1/2 can of Torco. The Torco was about 2 yrs old but it had never been opened. I poured it in, started my car, and took off. After 2 blocks the car started running very poorly and barely idled. I added about 12ga of fresh gas thinking it might dilute the mixture but it didn't help. My DIC showed codes indicating "multiple misfires" and MAF problems.
The engine ran a little better at high revs over 5000 but would not idle or run unless I feed it throttle. I pulled the PCM fuses hoping the computer would reset/relearn but it didn't help.
I can't 100% say the old Torco caused this but I have no reason to believe it didn't.
Any ideas on this one? Did the bad fuel/Torco mix destroy my O2s? I'm going to run an EASE Diagnostic Scan on Wed and hopefully get some answers.
I now know I'm an idiot for using the old Torco but I didn't think it would have gone bad since I never opened it and I had it properly stored. I certainly don't blame Torco for my mistake.
Thanks
Jim
Please don't try this theory on a 2 year old carton of milk
Seriously.....did you at least shake the can?? How has it been stored?Maybe it was the gas you threw in there. Have you been driving the car regularly?
I would drop Joel a line and see if he has some advise for you.
I doubt adding 16oz of good fresh Torco to about 4-5 ga of gas would produce such bad results.
I bought the Torco at least a year ago and as I said, if it went bad, it's my fault, not the fault of Torco or it's distributor.
I've put almost 50mi on the car since I added the good fuel in an attempt to dilute the mix but the car runs very poorly.
Hopefully I'll have some info after the diagnostic scan on Wed.

I was told that Torco has a 9 month shelf life and it should be discarded. I'd say you polluted your gas. Contact jbsblownc5 for his advice. He's the supplier to the CF.
Could be a coincidence I guess . I have 1/2 a can left over if you want to put it in your tank.
I really hope it's not the Torco and it's something simple.

Hey Jim,
I may be wrong, but I'm almost certain I remember you bashing Torco in a few previous threads. That being said,
#1, why did you use it, since you've had nothing good to say about it in the past.
#2 I distinctly remember you saying you went in on a 5 gallon jug, and were trying to sell what was left. Did you put in half a 5 gallon jug, or half a quart can?
#3 I mix one quart with 10 gallons of gas to make 96.5 octane. What was your mixture ratio?
#4 The shelf life of Torco, when properly stored is between 9 to 12 months. I've been told by Torco that after that period, it may no longer raise your octane to the desired level.
Sorry about your problems, and hope they are not too bad,
JB

I have NEVER bashed Torco or it's distributors. I actually bought a 6qt case from you a long time ago and then I bought a 5ga container from you. I sold the rest of my 5ga jug when I installed a meth. inj. kit. I am not blaming my engine problems on the Torco but I just wanted to know if anyone could give me an idea where to start. I tried to provide as much detail as possible to give people the necessary info to help me diagnose the problem. It certainly wasn't my intention to discredit Torco.
