A friend of mine is buying a 2003 convertable and would like to track it, but he would need to install a roll bar first. Is there a roll bar made for the convertables that could be welded to the frame, be safe on the track and also be able to put of the rag top as well?

Thanks!
If your freind is looking at doing DEs then he will need a roll bar that passes the SCCA Solo I specs. 1 3/4" mild steel .120 i.n. 4 point mount welded in not bolted and must pass the broom stick rule.
The broom stick rule is when he is sitting in the seat with his helmet on a broom stick is placed from the top of the windshield to the roll bar. There must be atleast 2" of clearnace between his helmet and roll bar.
Plus the roll bar must have FIA padding with in 6" of where the drivers and passangers helmet may hit.
No swing out door bars for DEs. Plus equal harness systems for driver and passanger.
I do not believe there is a comercially made roll bar for road circuts.
If he wants to drag race there are several roll bars avaible, these do not pass tech for road ciruits.
I think you only need a roll bar when you get under certain times in the 1/4 mile. Check with the track and see with there window is when they need a roll bar

Yeah, but when you have a convertible, that time is 13.99 seconds or quicker. Pretty easy to hit in virtually any vette...

FWIW - no rollbar required for most private road course DEs. I just drove Infineon in September and Reno-Fernley the month before. And I recently ran my vert at both Bakersfield and Sacramento NHRA sanctioned events and only got a warning when I busted 13.49, but ran 13.55 many passes without any issues or complaints. Also, when I can afford it, I want the ECS rollbar.

NHRA recently changed that .. because of the safety of modern day cars if your car runs in stock form .. you dont need a roll below 13.99 .. however you do need the helmet.
if you start modding it out then yes, you do need the roll.
