I went to Jackson, Tenn. to visit my family for the holiday. I was heading back to Nashville driving about 80 down the interstate, when I heard a funny noise, that sounded like it was coming from right behind then engine. It sounded like I had a hose come loose almost like running water. Then the engine stuttered. I push in the clutch everything goes back to normal. I let out and and it went back to normal. About a mile later, All hell breaks loose. I had to pull over to the side of the road. I tried to put it back in first and it won't go. It won't go in any gear. I finally got it to go into second and let out on the clutch but it is noisey and very jerky. I put it in neutral and let out on the clutch and the car pulls forward. I tried reverse and it feels like it is working against itself. The clutch feels good. I don't think there is anything wrong with the clutch. I am thinking that, I am probably looking at having the have the transmission rebuilt. I guess I am just looking to see if anyone has had this problem or has heard something like this.
I am sorry that this is so long I just wanted to put in as much info as i could. Thanks for any suggestions and help. Bryan
can you shift into gears with the car off?if the answer is yes,the problem is in the clutch.if it's hard to shift through the gears with the engine off,the problem is in the gearbox

It feels the same either way. Engine running with the car in neutral, let out on the clutch, the car will pull forward. push in the clutch the car quits pulling.
In his particular situation the transmission had been inproperally repaired by a dealer about a year ago. When we opened it up we found that the cage bearing under 1st gear had failed causing 1st gear to seize to the mainshaft.
