Hey everyone, as most of you guys on this thread probably already know...for the past week or so i've had difficulties getting my headers on...now that they are on im having problems with my car i don't know if its related to the header system install we did or if its to do with the engine rebuild gm did a week earlier :o
...on my drive to work today...the headers sounded different..almost as if they were leaking...(under the driver seat area) sounds different i think ill ahve that looked at again tomorrow...and another thing few things are....my gas (i filled up yesterday) (i keep my dic reading the RANGE for gas usually it goes to about 460km...but it doesn't seem to want to go past about 170 now ) it also doesn't have a reading for the left rear tire) ...and on the drive home...the car JERKED about 4 times (i only work about 5-10 minutes away from the dealership) it sorta jumps/jerks felt like it was going to turn off from the lights...and then when i was coming up the hill to my house it jerked about 4 times whats going on
could the jerking be realated to the coolant sensor that broke durring the install...because the coolant temp did go to the max 140 degrees and then back closer to 0 and then back etc...
i just came from another drive...went and had a bite to eat...no issues...came home...my camry was parked infront of the garage for my vette...i got out moved it...when i got back into the vette to start it up and park it inside...it had problems starting...woudln't start up...it sounded like it was going to start but woudln't turn on...once it started the rpms were going up and down by themselves...and when i would give it gas it felt as if it were going to turn off whats going on here
1st problem, left rear tires sensor, may just a relearn procedure will fix that (no biggie).
as far as the car being jerky, check the airbridge to make sure it's completely sealed, if you have a leak here you'll be sucking in air that the MAF won't sense and the car will not run right.
Did you fix the coolant temp sensor?
This sensor reports directly to the PCM and will definitly affect the way the engine runs.
ill check all that today....does the EGR have anything to do with any of this...because they are not connected to the headers (there was no connection) and i don't have them taken off
egr? i don't think your car has it.secondary air, yes.egr,no? dude, the other day i told you to check for air leaks.did you check for faults?also, you never said anything about rebuilding the motor, that can be a whole other ball of wax.first,CHECK FOR FAULTS!,STOP GUESSING!if you have any faults,POST THEM and maybe we can help you.your problem[s] can be anything from a air leak to hardly any fuel pressure/volume.without checking for faults[your first DIAGNOSTIC STARTING POINT]you are going to keep chasing your tail.
also worth looking at:exhaust leaks around the oxygen sensors WILL cause the sensors to read LEAN.pcm will fatten up the mixture
:make sure you don't have the rear o2 sensors
CROSSED[LEFT side should hook into the plug on the RIGHT side and vice-versa]if the are crossed the car WILL RUN LIKE GARBAGE[to say it nicely]
there are no codes on the dic...it only says check engine on the cluster and the only codes that come up are service tire monitor system...ill have the air bridge checked out otmorrow..i was at school all day today :o
16again the pic you posted of your air system...those are the pipes i still have connected in the car...they aren't connected to the headers thou...how do i take them off?? could this be one of the reasons my car is running like crap???

no.secondary air has no effect on the way the car runs[EXCEPT if the pump ran all the time and the air shutoff valve malfunctioned],but if it's disconnected it is out of the loop anyway.if you have the mil light on in the cluster, there should be something stored in the pcm memory.

Thats why I posted the pic. That should be throwing a code, you have no tuning yet right? Before my AIR system was removed it would throw codes but not affect the running of my car. Follow each hose and disconnect it at the end. Hose on drivers side is a PITA bolt is behind the head, very tight work area. As for your issues, your not throwing codes (very strange) Need to go in order of what you touched. Check for burning wires, which may be shorting out and cutting power. Check to see that the O2 sensors are installed properly. Check for cracked plugs (this happens quite frequently) from the install, and broken plug wires. Air bridge as pictured above, hose may be off in one of the corners which is allowing extra air in. Well that should do you for now.

If there is a check engine light then there will also be codes, do you know how to pull them up?
Turn the key on but don't start the engine then press and hold the options button and press the fuel button 3 times.

100%
check the O2 sensors and the plugs....maybe even a burned 02 sensor wire and\or plug wires - did you pull them out of the way of everything that will get hot? from the recent write ups on header installs...the 02 sensor after the cats are critical to get in the correct pipes as well as making sure the wires are off the long tubes...
so thats how your supposed to do it...all i do is reset the tire monitoring one and wait and there would be nothing :o now that i did that there are tons of codes its throwing at me

is this what you guys were talking about :o any help :o
thanks guys...hopefully the snow is cleared up tonight then ill have the air system looked at and check for leaks (its only like 2 cm maybe but i have a feeling they salted the roads...i don't want salt on my car :o )
and yes the coolant temp sensor is broken...im going to replace that (its already been ordered)

Wrong and reason people have screwed up engines.
AIR is used to help delute the rich exhaust so that PCM can set what the injector on time will be for that drive cycle and AIR is used to speed up the heat process in the CAT so they fire off faster.
If you have CATs leave AIR alone for without it CATs lifespan will be shorter and PCM will be adjusting cold start fueling incorrectly
IF AIR hoses have not been installed in the headers I hope you plugged up the openings on headers for if they are left open the O2s are seeing a false AFR and PCM adjusting incorrectly.
AIR system has zero effect on performance when functional and only run for up to 240 seconds on cold start so no sense to remove it and if your state does visual smog testing they will fail you if AIR is gone since AIR is a required smog part ( except C6 where engine design did not require AIR since CATS are right off the heads and heat up quick quickly)
As to engine problems the PCM uses water tempertures for many of its adjustment decisions and without that sensor the engine will run poorly
