I think its a good idea, sometimes you have to get updated info.
What about the great stock LS-1 intake?

best in terms of what? Performance wise, it is the vararam, but the thing is a piece of junk.
In terms of quality blackwing or haltech stinger. use search

I voted vararam only because its the only true cold air intake out there. I would get it but my car is a daily driver and there are torrential rains here 7 months out of the year here. Right now I have the Blackwing and I am happy with it.

The best is the Callaway Honker. The quality is excellent and it fits perfectly. It also makes great hp increases.

Best design: Callaway (CAI, repositions the MAF and is 50 states legal)
Best bang for the buck: Halltech Stinger (Huge air filter, bigger-than-stock airbridge, and a smooth TB coupler, all for the same price as a Blackwing filter)

I vote for (and bought) a Blackwing becuase I think it's the best all around compromise of quality, price, performance and ease of installation. But what's best for me and my daily driver isn't necessarly the best for someone looking to get every last pony... I don't know from experience, but I hear a lot of good testimonials for the Vararam for absolute power. Of course, if you're building up a H/C engine or forced induction engine, the best might be something else entirely. And keep in mind that probably 90% of the C5s on the road use an intake not even on your list -- the stock piece that the engineers saw fit to put on there.
