Default Help! Keyless Entry Will Not Work!

I just bought my 2000 Millenium Yellow C5 about a month and a half ago and this is the only thing that doesn't work. The guy that I bought it from thought it was the battery. So on the way home from buying the car I stopped at a Chevrolet place to see if they had a battery. They put one in it and it didn't help. So they said that they would have to re-program it which would cost around $40 dollars. Just before he started programing it I guess he done the lock and unlock method and it worked fine for about a day or so.

I tried searching the boards and found out how to do this unlock and lock thing till the horn beeps thing. This will work for about a minute and then the keyless entry will be dead again. Does anybody know what I can do to fix this problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Derek

My 2000 Nassau Blue does something similar. It will lose its memory of the fob after about 2 days of no use. This isn't too bad, as I just use the lock-unlock relearn feature and all is back to normal. Yours is way more annoying though, as basically you'd have to do this every time you use the fob. Good luck - post your results!

There are two type of programming. 1- Is synchronizing. Hold lock and unlock button at the same time for 20-40 sec. The horn will beep. 2- Reprogram with the DIC. This is most likely what dealer did.

You need a new fob. The receiver could be bad if there was a problem with the tire pressure monitor system, but you said that every thing else works. Common problem. I got one on ebay.

Edit: you can try with an other fob. Or ask a C5 buddy to give you his fob for a test. You reprogram and you see if the fob is really the problem.

The bottom line is if you've tried everything and it still won't work properly you need to get a new one and be done with it.

here is the programming proceedure in case you need it.

Fob programming

1-Turn the ignition to RUN

2-Turn the radio off

3-Press the RESET button in order to clear any IPC warning messages

4-Press the Option button on the DIC until the IPC display is blank in order to enter the program mode

5-Press and hold the Reset button for 3 seconds

6-Press the option button until FOB Training message is displayed

7-Press the Reset button in order to begin the programming sequence.

8-Simultaneously press and hold the lock an unlock buttons on the first transmitter for 12 seconds. The IPC will indicate when that transmitter is programmed and when to proceed to the next .Repeat this step for each transmitter.

Any update on this topic? I just bought a silver '00 and have the exact same symptoms...Program it, works for a minute, then forgets. Did the new transmitter fix the problem???

THanks in advance, I look forward to helping anyone I can in the future.

I'm new here too with a 'new to me' 2000 coupe and the same issue. I reprogram the fob with the DIC 'FOB Relearn' mode and it works for a minute or two, then stops. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your FOB works most of the time and requires frequent RE-SYNC to work, you most likely bave a weak main 12 DC battey. Look in the DIC and read all of your codes. If you see a ton of U series codes that are History ( U 1000 H, U 1056 H, ect ect... ) you may need to replace your battery. If the battery voltage drops to low when you start the car, the RFA module and the BCM shut down and loose sync with the FOB.

I was thinking it had to be the FOB, my 97 came with 2 FOBS when I bought it a year ago , and they both worked.
1 FOB still works like a charm , but a couple a months ago , the other one began to lose its memory , a re-synch will work for a day or so then has to be done again . a change of remote battery did not help .
Glad to see that the remote replacement fixed your problem , because now I can buy a FOB knowing that this will fix my issue as well.
Thanks for the update !

Reviving this thread, because I have the same issue. Only 1 out of 3 of my fobs works properly. The other 2 lose memory within a minute and have to be resynced, but not rematched (DIC). The 2 oddballs also unlock both doors on the first UNLOCK depress, instead of one door at a time. Should I replace the remotes?

Also, what is the DCM? Feeder82 said, "Just one side or both door locks dont unlock?, there are a bunch of posts if you search door locks on this forum. lots of answers, mine did the same thing its was the dcm."

Ok,,,Ill try to sum this up. Each fob can be MEMORY set to control things for each FOB differently You can have up to three fobs for each car. You have three memory settings Memory (1) Memory (2) and if you press (1) & (2) at the same time it will be memory (3)

EXAMPLE. My wife is short 5" 5" and uses memory (1) and I am 6'2" use memory (2). I have also set memory (3) up for me to use during aggressive driving.
If I use her FOB to unlock the car and go for a drive, it will only unlock the drivers door and when I stick the key into the ignition, I get my *** squashed in to the steering wheel and legs jammed up under the dash.

I have mine set up to unlock BOTH doors and set to MY seat position setting and when I lock the car,, it DOES NOT blow the horn!!!

Sooo, to test your FOBs, make sure that they are all programmed to the same memory setting functions or make sure that you set each memory setting parameters to the same for each fob.

There are also functions in the OPTIONS setting that you can set up for each memory function. There are a lot of them.

I hope you under stand what I am talking about. If not,, PM me.
