BCM in 98
What you cannot do is program it as what features or options car has.
It also would need to be relearned to the PCM which you can do a relearn process so engine will start and run.
If a dealer would work with you you could buy a BCM, you do the install and save their labor costs but then have to pay them to hook up a Tech-II and program BCM so in the end it is what the cheapest path and less hassle is for you.

If your labor cost are anything like they charge in CT it will be about $70 to have the dealer program the BCM to your car.
Good luck

My car is acting all haywire...The lights flickered off and the car wouldnt turn over...I thought it was the battery so I bought a new one. The same thing happened about 15 seconds after I got it to run...lights flickered, dimmed, loud ticking from the BCM area, then everything shut off. :-/ Dealer says BCM needs to be replaced. They agreed to let me purchace it and they would install it and program it for 100$ Saving me over 250$

Before replacing BCM see if it needs to be relearned to PCM again.
Make sure battery is fully charged and turn all electronic functions off
Use a stopwatch if possible and turn key on for 11 minutes
Then turn off key for 30 seconds.
Do this 3 cycles and that process informs PCM and BCM to relearn to each other and resync.

Pry open the aluminum cover of the box.
Here is whatyou will see:

NOTE!!! The module is heldinside the box with a single screw on the bottom of the box! DO NOT remove this screw until you have opened the top of the box and noted the position of the IC componet that is located on the top right hand side of the board. If yours is grounded to the box or isolated from the box, MAKE SURE that it get put back in the same condition!
Remove the screw that holds the board in the box. Inspect the BOTTOM of the circuit board. Look for corossion. If there is any, remove it with a stiff bristle brush and alcohol.

BCM failures are often the result of a faulty battery!!!! MAKE sure that you battery is 100% good and the battery terminals are clean and torqued in place at 11 ft/lbs.
Make sure that the carpets in the pass foot well are dry. Water on the BCM will cause all sorts of electrical havoc!!!!!!!!!
