Default Car won't go into 2nd, 4th, & 6th!!!

I was driving home from work and gave it some gas, then I couldn't shift into 2nd, 4th, or 6th (it just grinds). 1st, 3rd, & 5th are fine and the clutch petal is fine. The only changes that I've have made recently are just a B&M precision sport shifter which has about 150 miles on it but has been acting funny (slight grind in second and fourth) when cold but works fine when it heats up. I made an appointment with my shop but they can't get me in for a week and a half. Does anyone know what it could be? Car is a 97 with 45,000 miles, Cartek clutch, ZO6 slave, and a McLoud adjustable master cylinder all with 8-10,000 miles on them. Has anyone had this problem? I hope this doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.

Well, it could be either no big deal or rather bad news.

If your shifter has slipped it might not be engaging 2,4, and 6, but have enough throw to pull the linkage into 1, 3, and 5. That should be easy for you to check.

Or, the tranny has had an internal failure in the shift linkage.

Let's hope for the best.

HTH, and have a good one (well, as good as possible),
Mike

I don't know if the B&M has adjustable stops but the Hurst does and this would be a symptom of one of the stops coming loose.

As the other guy said, check the set screw (stop) to see if it has come loose. The same thing happened on my Hurst on the same gears.

As you've probably noticed, each of the gears you're having problems engaging are the "forward" throws on your shifter. Check the front travel of the shift lever and where it "stops". HTH

There is a pin in a holder fwd of the shift mechansim under the boot. You need to loosen the rod that goes back to trans, insert pin to properly locate rod then tighten and locktight rod fastener. GM put this tool in there for just this purpose.
Tighten shifter and locktite as well.

I hope it's a simple adjustment and not rounded teeth on the three gears. That could be in the upward 4 or 5 grand for repair!
