From reading the C6 forums, I gather that several C6 owners are very happy after replacing just their mufflers with Flowmaster 14335/6 mufflers for a total cost of $300 or less. Do C5 owners have similar options?
Also, it seems that on C6s (or C6 Z06s) the exhaust tone can be made deeper by pulling out a fuse. How about C5s?

Don't know about the fuse thing... ...but the C5 has a dozen different options for back end exhaust systems, and when coupled with headers, cat and center section x-pipes the alternatives and combinations are in the hundreds. You can get good high flowsystems that run from very loud to very mild.

The C6 Z06 tone can be made louder by pulling the fuse that controls the butterfly/cutout valve in the muffler. Pulling the fuse locks it in the open position allowing for a mostly straight-thru exhaust.

I know there are many systems you can choose from, but everything I have seen includes pipes, mufflers, etc.. Prices I have seen are in the $750-$2000 range including install. I was hoping to save a couple of hundreds by replacing just the mufflers as those C6 guys are doing with the Flowmaster 14335. Hence this thread.
Replacing just the mufflers on a C5 won't be easy. The C6 exhaust is straight back, but the C5 doubles back on itself and then makes a 90º turn on the exit. On top of all that, the rear hanger (which largly determines the alignment angle of the tips) is welded or brazed onto the muffler itself.
As for the fuse, that's a no-can-do as well, as explained by BudgetPlan1.
