Default Heads & Cam ?

Hi All,

I've just got my car back from the first round of mods. Mods are in Sig. Before Christmas I would be installing my NX Wet system as well and run a 100 shot. The reason for this post is this , I was initially looking at installing a LS2 402 next year but given some other circumstances ( Need to get married ) my "mod" budget would be negated. Hence as suggested by a friend maybe I should look into a nice H/C package. Stock sounding cam with AFR 205s . Cam should also work well with juice.
Any suggestions ? Time Slips ? Sound Clips ?

Nothing drastic. Just been with this woman for four years now and "we" finally arrived at the decision either we get married or she does something harsh. She did mention the horse head seen from The Godfather

Better than waking up with the vette steering wheel under the covers with you.

spend some time at LS1tech.com and find out what YOU want. Different people want different things from a H/C. Educate yourself on the subject and ask some specifics.

I agree know what you want, from how fast you want the car to run to how you want it to sound. I got Lucky and the shop that Built my 383 Stroker H/C Package (Texas Speed and Performance) felt exactly what I needed.

IMO even a small cam can sound pretty agresive if tuned as such. If you are going to spray, there has been a great deal of guys going with LGs AFR 205 and a G5X3 but, that is a very big cam even on a 114. It is damn near as big as a T Rex I hear but with a wider LSA. Depeneds on what you are doing with the car too IE drags? DD? Street Strip??? Good luck!
Dave
PS I ran a TR 224 227 114 for a few months, great street cam IMO but as soon as I went internal. I knoew I needed a bigger cam. Good luck!

Car is a street setup. Will most likely never see strip time. This package needs to make some decent mid range power. Also without the need to make too many other changes. I have an 04 so the fuel system is an issue but I don't want to do anything their yet. Also would like to stay within the limits of stock injectors. Idle needs to be within stock or a little above that i.e PCM could learn the same by itself without the need to tweak IAF/RAF tables/Idle values or anything like that.
Hope the above clarifies matters ?

You'll want to have your PCM tuned or none of the above mods will really make a difference. You could get yourself a Z06 cam and put down some nice NA power and still have it nicely safe for the nitrous on top of that. But you need the computer tuned to throw a little more fuel in there. Unless you're running a wet-kit.

That being said.

Personally i'd go with a little more agressive of a cam than the Z06, put the idea of nitrous out of my mind, and never have to worry if my bottle is full, or even open or not. Seeing as how, much like you, I dont plan on seeing any strip time in my vette. Just build a solid NA motor on stock compression with a 114 LSA cam and always know the power is there. Hope that helps some.

Nabil,

As you know I have a H/C set-up and I spray. I have a pretty good set of Heads (Cartek 2X) but a small cam (218/222 on a 113 LSA old Cartek M cam).

ECS did my tune and N/A I got 409/390 and with a 75 shot the car pulled 490/500. I wish now I had gone with a bigger cam, and am planning to do so this winter. However with this combo I was able to pull 123 traps N/A. I am switching to Cartek's 3X cam. You hear people say it all the time "I wish I had gone with a bigger cam", and I'm no different.

Best of luck in whatever you do.

The MTI Stealth II cam may be what you're looking for.

I'm running a G5X3 on a 114 with stock heads, other mods in sig. car put down 392 to the tires on Norris's Dyno. Real aggressive cam, sounds great, def. not for the light hearted though.

So they tell me. There are alot of good cams out there. Cartek has impressed me with cam only cars (plus bolt on's) going 128 traps. Plus I'm impressed with the results from my baby cam. Doesn't make Cartek's big cam any better then say the T-Rex or LG's big GX cams or the others. But I have been impressed with what they have accomplished.

Been there done that! A cam is like crack, once you hit it, you want more!!! I was trapping @ 120 with a TR 224 227 114 and we shall see today what a TR 232 236 112+4 will do (.594 .602). The G5X series, TRex, Majic stick and carteck X3 are all big cams even with all the specs not being out there for us to compare and IMO it is in the tune that makes the differance.

Here is another monster Cam:

Texas Speed & Performance Texas Giant Cam: 248/254, .629"/.622", 113 LSA

I watched it put down some serious numbers. And sounds great.
