Default Recall 4006 vs DIY

Should I let the dealer perform the recall of is it better to do it myself?? (column lock) I have had no problems but was thinking of buying the kit from that place in Houston.

Any time you take the car in for any service, I was told they are required to verify this recall has taken place since it is safety related. I installed the CLB when my 02 was brand new and have had no problems. If you have an automatic, I don't think there is as much risk. With a stick, I personally wouldn't let them do it because it appears a lot of folks never have a problem until this recall is done and then they start getting the column lock problem.

The recall does nothing to prevent the car from still locking up. It just makes the car unable to exceed 3 mph if it does lock, which if it hasn't happened yet to you, there's a good chance it probably will eventually. Get the bypass kit and make sure the dealer never attempts to do the recall.

Read the thread at the top of this forum category (C5 tech). It tells you everything you ever wanted to know about column locking.
I wish that I had read it before I took my car in for the recall! The recall stole 30hp from my 98 6spd and didn't fix the column locking up. All the recall does is shut down the fuel if it does lock up.

if the column locks engages and doesn't release, TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT WHILE TURNING THE KEY 'ON', works every time
