Went to pull a plug wire off, and it basically crumbled in my hands... completely separated from the plug boot without even applying any tension to that area. Turned out every plug wire was in the same brittle condition. Guess that's what the Florida heat + 5 years/46k miles of engine heat will do. Anyone else seen the stock wires deteriorate that badly?
Ordered a set of MSDs from summit (they're on sale now for anyone who needs em), overnight shipping so I should have em tomorrow :-)
Also going to put in the NGK TR55IX iridium plugs. Hopefully that all will take away some of the shake at idle.

better than letting someone else make the mistake. I'll post a picture of mine later. They were on the car for 1500 miles and HAD Kool Socks on them. Caused me a ton of grieve at different track events. Between the wire never staying on and the the rubber boots just chunking I probably had 7-8 days ruined which is not cheap. I had the stock wires for 50,000 miles no problem with many many track miles. You can'y even be sure the MSD on snapped on. Sorry I told the truth. Post pic's later I have to hang a fixture now.

Interesting. That is the exact opposite of what I have experienced with the MSD wires that came on my 99. I have even added FLP headers and changed plugs several times (as part of my SC install) and have nothing but praise for those MSD plug wires. No socks on mine either.

Go with the Taylor wires with Kool Socks (recommended if you have headers) - you won't be sorry. I also had a bad experience with MSD wires. The Taylor wires "click" on for a positive and reliable connection.
it seems like the MSDs are hit or miss with everyone here. I dont think that the TR55IX are gonna help the shake that much. Getting new plug wires should. I have the IXs in mine as well when i did the header install. Im happy with em. They havent caused any problems in the 2,500 miles or so that ive had them. They come pre-gapped, all you should have to do is double check the gap to make sure that all are the same.
For my old Muscle Cars (all late 60's 'Maro's, 'Mino's, Birds, and, a '65 Impala), AND, F-Body IROC's and 5.7L GTA's, I have had great service with MSD wires and ignition. However, on my C5's, I prefer Magnecore wires. On my DD, I have had the same set of Magnecores on for over 3 1/2 years, and, they are great. Good luck to you.
On my supercharged Regal, Magnacors caused many misfires. Ask anyone else in the L67 community and they'll tell you the same, Magnacors are junk.
As for Taylors, I had one explode just like John's MSD did. I emailed Taylor with a pic, and they sent out a new set right away(great customer service!).
I'll go back to stock for the next set of wires though. They seem to work fine as long as they aren't molested after having some miles on them.
