undefined can anyone tell me how to turn off or delete the wheel sensors on a 00 vette? i put new tires on and the new tires take an air press. that keeps telling me its to high. the new tires are not run flats so i dont really need them. any help would be great. thanks
Different tires don't "take" any different air pressure than the stock ones. The pressure indicated on the tire sidewall is a maximum pressure, not an ideal one.
Optimum tire pressure is determined by the car, not the tire. You should be running them at 30-32psi cold. For any tire.
Do tell. People have been trying it for years, with no luck.
You would be the first ever to sucessfully turn off the TPM system on a pre-01 car. Has your BCM ever been changed? Is yours a very late 00 model?
The TPM system was not a selectable option within the BCM until the Z06 came out in 2001. Since the Z doesn't use TPM, GM then made the feature selectable in 01 for the sole cost-saving reason of keeping the same BCM in all models. it allowed the C5's to have TPM , and Z's not to, all with the same piece of hardware.
The fact it can be turned off on 01-04 C5's wasn't really intended, it's sort of a backdoor "feature". The same benefit can be had by Z06 owners who wish to install sensors and enable the function.
As I've said many many times.... the sicker on the door is there to idiot proof the air pressure that some people chose to apply. Unfortunatly we are seeing a better brand of idiots.
the new tires are running at about 42 lbs. anything less and it starts to feel alittle loose. bfg recommends 45 psi in the fronts and 50psi in the rear. prototype tires cant tell what they are yet.

I'm impressed ! can't wait till the Twin gets back on this one.

No way to turn them off that I know of - you can always take them out and replace with regular valve stems. However, just because you don't have runflats, doesn't mean the sensors are not useful. I run non-runflats and would not drive the car without the sensors. They will still tell you when you are getting low on pressure and could save you ruining a tire when it gets low.
If you need to run 45-50 psi in your tires to make your car handle better, you have a severe suspension issue or your car need an alignment REAL bad!!! I have never seen a C5 tire that needs that much air pressure unless your transporting gold bars from Fort Knox!!
I recommend fixing the underlying issue and using a more reasionable tire pressure! I keep P zero's at 28 rear and 30 fronts (cold) and get very even tire wear and outstanding handling. OEM tires were the same. Never ever had an issue with those pressures.
I own a '99 FRC and the previous owner installed '02 Z06 wheels. Can I buy '97 - '00 wheel sensors and mount them on the Z06 wheels? I do not feel comfortable driving the car w/0 sensors. I keep a can of Fix a Flat in the trunk as a backup device.
