Default Dual Pillar Pod Install Help

Can the dual pillar pod be installed (attached) to the windshield A pillar after the pod and pillar cover are attached to one another? I’ve tried to install it as one unit but it seems that the lower gauge port bumps the dash before the pillar cover can get low enough for the spring pins to line up with the holes in the A Pillar.

Another question I have is once the pod in installed, how do I remove it if I need to at a later date? Assuming they can't be slipped into place after the two are together, then I suspect I wouldn’t be able to remove them without removing the small push pins used to secure the Dual pod to the stock pillar cover first. The one at the base of the windshield would be a little hard to reach and the little push type pins seem to break off when I try to remove them, and that’s before they are in a confined space.

I tried searching previous threads for answers but didn't find any that matched my problem. Anyone with experience installing one of these have any suggestions?

Leave the OE A-pillar in place... the instal the gauges and wiring in the new dual pod and place it over the OE unit. Drill the little holes into the OE pillar and then slip the Dual pod over and install pins. When you need to remove dual pod, just remove pins.

Steve,
Thanks for the instructions. What do you use to pull the pins? The one I tried to take out broke off when I pried on it using a needle nose pliers (once I could get it under the head). Am I correct in that the stock pillar cover and pod cover can’t be installed together as one unit because of there being no room to fit them into place?

The pins that came with mine can be pulled pretty easily. If yours don't, you can find an alternative pin. You have to leave the factory pillar in place, then install yours over it or you won't be able to get them on.

My pod was an autometer full pillar cover and it never fit over the OE pillar correctly. I just removed the OE pillar and completely replaced it with the pod. The fit was great and when I went back to an N/A setup I had the un-drilled OE pillar to put back in.

Those little pins have to be worked out carefully with any tools available to you. Seems if you installed the pins along the outside of the pillar (where they are easy to get to) they are easier remove.

Just put mine in last weekend. Fits fine or even better than with the OEM pillar in place. I drilled a single hole at the top and used the screw that the weather stripping attaches with to secure it. Done and done. Now I just need to find the fittings to tap into the brake booster line for the boost gauge. Thought I could use misc. fittings from Home Depot but I could not find what I needed.

I totally removed the stock pillar cover and installed the dual gauge pillar cover. I removed the little vent from the stock cover and installed it into the dual cover. I then used 2 little sheet metal screws and drilled 2 small holes through the cover and into the pillar on the outer side. On the inner side, where the windshield meets the pillar, I used 2" velcro along the entire length. You hardly even notice the 2 little sheet metal screws at all. The camera flash was pretty bright since I was close. Ive seen some installs where the dual cover was just slid over the stock cover and its bulging out and the hole for the vent is off and it looks like crap.

Don't someone make a complete replacement gauge pod where you don't use the factory panel at all? I was sure I seen one somewhere.

Also, anyone know of a 3 gauge pod out there for a C5?
