Default spec clutch?

Ive got a 2000 vert. and after the lt header, x pipe, high flow cats, exhaust and vararam the clutch went bad (coincidence i hope).Anyhow i was looking at the spec stage 2 or 3 clutch from tbyrne for $380 or $420 any input on these would be appreciated (easy pedal engagment, chattering etc..) Also should i replace the slave cylinder and master cylinder to? Thanks. Bob

99 vert mn6, I replaced my stock clutch with a Spec stage 3, 6 puck with a sprung hub. great clamping power, however I due get a little chattering at lower rpm take offs in traffic. I decided on the stage 3 since I wasn't done modding , after the first round, I dyno'd at 369.5 rwhp. in the spring, Heads I am hoping for 425-440.

I guess it depends on whether you will track the car or just some hard street driving. For just street I would go for a Stage 2, no chattering? I would recommend however going with an aluminum flywheel 'since you have it apart' My car now revs so much faster do to the lighter rotating mass vs stock. As for the slave cylinder, yes probably should.

Almost forgot, pedle pressure, I can't tell any difference, maybe a little stiffer.

good luck deciding

hello i have a spec 3 (6 puck) and had the alluminum flywheel . There was some chatter on a slow take off. I switched over to a steel flywheel and the chatter is much better. the spec is holding up pretty well so far i have about 6k miles on it and am putting out 473 rwhp and 489 rwtq.

I would check the new flywheel + PP before installing them.
My PP was warped and the assembly wasn't balanced (bad chattering + bad vibrations).
After 500 miles I was tired of this BS and I reinstalled the stock (zero balanced) clutch assembly.
It's a stage 2 and it's stiffer that the stocker.
Holding power is ok, but the rest (in my case) sucked.

Stage 3 and pretty pleased other then severe chatter on take offs for the first 3K miles. Now it's fine. The good thing was I got those 3K miles done within 4 days during the Car&Driver One Lap of America

Stage II with aluminum flywheel here. It's great. Been on the car since stocker died in 2002 (heads/cam will do that). I put on the upgraded master and slave at the same time. I also did the drill mod to remove the three restrictors, some say not necessary, but I was willing to do just about anything to end the lazy pedal syndrome, and it worked. No chatter, smooth pedal, no slip, stock pedal feel and foot pressure.
