At least it did not take your legs off. I am surprised this does not happen more often. Maybe it does and people just do not post about it. So whats the solution to containing a PP explosion?
So Sorry to hear of this. I too had this happen although for other reasons but the damage you describe is nearly the same as I experienced. Even the pieces of bell housing coming through the firewall is the same.
Good news is you are okay and the car can be repaired.
For those interested in something to contain this type of explosion. There is nothing available that i know of and I did a good bit of research after my experience in 2002. The only workable solution is to have a steel bell housing custom made at great expense and additional weight to the car.
Good luck with this and hopefully it will not completely dampen your holiday celebrations.

Crazy experience right....
I've taken alot of the stuff off the car...it can be repaiered but,...it's gonna cost me. Headers/bellhousing/clutch assembly/flywheel/A/C line(all of them)hydraulic clutch lines/firewall damage in several areas/wireing harness(s)wiper assembly,arms/engine block has crack.
...but,..tomorrow i'm going on a long awaited cruise so,...gonna get a little crazy for a week.
One of my biggest fears with this car. High HP configurations and no way to add a armored bell housing and a no one I know of makes a blanket that will fit.
I had a 72 BB 454 Vette back in the 80's blow up a Centerforce clutch like that. One big piece stuck in the pavement under the car. Could have taken one of my legs off.
This has been known to happen and the assembly going through the dash and cowl and taking out the windshield seems to be the common exit point.
I lost a high school friend at the race track from this happening in a mercury cyclone. Second time at track with car flywheel shattered at about the 20ft line. He lost both feet in seconds and later died at hospital from his injures.
Now for my idea with insurance.
It was under their direction that you took it for a spin. A soaked clutch disk could of done this or derbies in the clutch pack. The damage due to flood is completely feasible. Ride them hard they will fold when they come to realize they instructed you to take car for a ride and endangered your life.

Thanks...i'm still pushing them.
As for the pictures,..I have plenty of them. Thanks for your patience...I will post them but, not before I have an answer from my insurance company. When they tell me, yes they're gonna fix it, i'll post the picture right after.
So did....
1) The flywheel come apart
or
2) Clutch material came off the disc
or
3) Pressure Plate come apart
Glad your OK!
Phil
Car is off the lift now...but, from what you could see, without removeing anything from the car but loose debree, was that the pressure plate came apart. Clutch looks intact, flywheel looks intact. Again, this is looking at everything from underneath the car.
YOU'RE OK !!! THE MOST IMPORTANT !!!
I'm not sure that water was the cause ...
We recently bought a new stage 2 Spec clutch , but we've never installed it .....! the pressure plate came with oval bolts holes !!! and the centering pins holes were too large for the flywheel pins !!! It was impossible to BALANCE it .
