Default Need help with knock sensor

I get DTC p0327 CH, which is due to a faulty front knock sensor. I inspected the knock sensor and it was corroded...so I ordered a new one from GMPartsDirect. My problem is I am driving to Florida next week and the new knock sensor will not arrive in time to install it before I leave.

My wife has agreed to go in the C5, which was quite a nice gesture on her part...she is not as fond of the C5 as we are, to say the least!

Here's my question: Am I being foolish to drive to Florida (about 13 hours) with the faulty knock sensor? Can it cause problems other than throwing codes? I know it sends the PCM timing adjustment signals.

Any advice is appreciated

Does the car run normal with the light on? Or can you feel the pcm pull timing out of it when you're driving? If it runs fine I think you will be fine to drive it, just be aware that the kr function will not be properly functioning so if you are detonating at wot the pcm probably wont be pulling timing as designed.

IMO, drive it.

Here is what my manual says:

"Action Taken when the DTC Sets

- The control module illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on the second consecutive iginition cycle that diagnostic runs and fails.

- The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The first time the diagnostic fails, the control module stores this information in the Failure Records. If the diagnostic reports a failure on the second consecutive ignition cycle, the control module records the operating conditions at the time of the failure. The control module writes the operating conditions to the Freeze Frame and updates the Failure Records."

You might want to visit the HPTuners web site and post the question over there with someone familiar with how the PCM will respond. Since some guys turn off the knock sensors, you might be able to get away with it. The question is whether it will go to the low grade fuel tables as a default and you will be down on power. I am not sure on that.

Good luck.

First off...has it been tuned? If so, then..DON'T DRIVE IT!

Even if it wasn't tuned...still DON'T DRIVE IT...

You might end up on the side of the highway with some engine damage.....Besides....what fun is driving it if you can't drive it hard???

Plus, the problem will only get worse as you go south and the climate gets warmer....

Hope this helps...
