Default Ripper seems odd

I just installed the Ripper on my Z06 and it feels odd. When I try to shift quickly, I always get hung up in neural instead of getting into the gear that I want. It doesn't feel real stiff, which is what most people complain about, but it doesn't have a smooth motion from gear to gear. Will this improve as I break in the shifter? The Ripper in my Camaro feels great.

Was the presence of springs in the ripper evident before installation? (in case you got it used and they were removed)

I find that it pulls hard to neutral. I removed one spring for easier shifting to 5/6, but left the other in for a firm pull on 2-3 and great centering on 3-4.
