Hi Gang. I am going to do a big break kit and wonder if anyone knows why I would prefer Wilwood over Stoptech other than cost. It appears you can buy Wilwood for about $1,500.00 less. Any other considerations?? Thanks
A friend of mine had the Wilwood set up and had nothing but problems with it. If you are on a budget, go with the Stoptechs. If you have a little more money to spend, go with Brembo.
2006 Z06 if you have larger wheels and rotors or....
C6 Z06 if you have stock wheels with larger rotors or....
C5 Z06 with stock wheels and stock rotors....

Mine work great. What type of car or Wilwoods did he have?
Well, if yours work great, that's quite a testament, because I know you beat on yours. He had an 01 Z06, that slowly tranformed into a T1 car. Somewhere during the transformation, after a several track sessions, he was getting bad vibrations traced to the brakes. One of the shops that was setting up the car advised him to go back to stock brakes. He did. Problem solved.
My experiences with Wilwoods is good and bad. My wife has a factory (Wilwood) set up for her Camaro. The brakes are fabulous on the street and the track.
My car (before the crash) is an '01 Z06. I purchased a Dilusi (probably not in business) Wilwood big brake kit. The kit included Wilwood calipers (6 up front an 4 in the rear). I think the rotors were 13.6 in the front and a little less in the rear. On the street the brakes were just fantastic. On the track, there were horrible. After one lap I would get a vibration so bad the steering wheel felt like it was trying to jump out of my hand. We tried everything and were not able to correct the problem. The rotors were made by Coleman, not wilwood. A friend has the same setup and can use the brakes on the track if he gets double heat treated Coleman rotors (the only rotors that work with the DiLusi kit); beds in the pads; takes off the rotors; turns the rotors, and then reinstalls on the car. Also, he can't use really aggressive pads. Lot's of trouble but he manages to get a lot of sessions out of the rotors.
I have other friends with the C5 Wilwood kit direct from Wilwood. They seem to work just fine on the street and track.
If you plan to race, I would go with Stoptech or Brembos. However, plan on spending a boat load for rotors every few track days. If you are on the street only, they're all good.
I plan on running Wilwood SL6 calipers on Stoptech aero rotors behind my stock 02 Z06 wheels and leaving the rear brakes alone other then pads and a slotted rotor only to match the front. No cross drilled what so ever!! I haven't decided exactly which pads I'm going to use but most likely will end up with two, only for the track and one for the street. Also definately plan on getting SS lines and LG spindle ducts in congunction with DRM duct extensions.

If the piston volume matches stock pistons you don't need a new master like the Stoptech or Wilwoods. The AP fron DRM come with a bigger master. You need to order the Wilwood caliper with the Thermlock pistons not the regular pistons. I have had my rotors glowing in the day time in some pictures. I have no problems with the WIlwoods at all. I recently went to the Stoptech 2 piece rotors in front and will probably go 4 piston rear Wilwood and 13: rear Stoptech and no Ebrake before next season. The Stoptech have no safety wire on the so a swap will be faster than Wilwoods. I can always dump a a NAPA back in a pinch.
Yes, absolutly plan on using Thermlock pistons. I almost thought that was a given, anything to reduce heat from being transfered to the fluid. Also plan on using a brake fluid like Motul RBF600 I think is what it's called. Last time I talked to the guys at LG they said that their ducts would work with the DRM extensions.
I have had both on my car. Currently, I have the the full 4 wheel Stoptech kit with 2-piece 14 in. rotors. My car is the one they have on their web site.
I have had the stoptechs on my car for the past 2+ years and 20,000 miles. They have preformed flawlessly on the track and on the street...
Good luck...

How many track events did the rotors last? I put two piece Stoptechs on the front of my car but end of season and not much time.
