Default Off-road Exhaust Question...

I rescently got a 99 Vert. It currently has the Flowmaster cat back system on it. Im thinking of going with an offroad X pipe and keep the current cat back. This might be a dumb question, but will the computer throw codes without the cats on the car? Im sure it will, but whats the "fix" for it? Also, how do these cars sound with offroad X pipes and flowmasters without having LT headers?

Any advice will be appreciated, thanks.

It will probably sound great. The front O2 sensors do most of the work.... You can even have the rear O2's deleted in a tune or you can buy O2 simulators.

How do they sound???? STUPID LOUD.

I run TPIS LTs, Random Tech high flow cats and 3" x pipe with 3" staight pipe exhaust. No codes what so ever.

I ware ear plugs under the helmet and I drive a coupe. It is still LOUD. My wife can hear the car a mile away when I go to bed in brake pads & rotors.

I can not begin to think about the sound in a vert.

I used to run TPIS LT w/no cats and Flowmaster exhaust for over 3 years, and they sounded great. Not to loud under normal driving and just right under WOT. Of course sound is a very subjective thing, what sounds good to me may not sound good to you.

FYI - My new LG Pro LT w/hi-flow cats and flowmasters sound about the same as my old TPIS LT w/no cats and flowmasters....but just a little better.

Default loud?

it wil sound bitchin........... the way a vette is supposed to sound. Now, if you bought the car to go get groceries in or take to car shows or to let your wife use it to sell Mary Kay sheat, then, no - it mite be a little loud...........but my personal preference IS loud...... my neighbor won't even look at me so I normally pass his house in 2nd gear at about 3500rpm - extremely childish, I know..... but this ahole is an elvis impersonator and lawn care specialist..............ya know? I'm a loving caring person, but even I have limits..........

That is funny as hell, lol. I think I may go with the Magnaflow X. Heres a small article on it:
http://www.vetteweb.com/tech/0307vet_xpipe/

Im going to just have that X section put in place of where the current H/crossover is and leave the cats and all in place. I hope it has the sounds im looking for without having to remove the cats.
