Default How hard would it be to...

How hard would it be to drop a GM "Ram Jet" 502 in a C5 vette? What all would have to be done to the engine compartment to make it fit? thanks

anything is possible,it's just the issues you would face.off the top of my head-motor mounts,oil pan,engine setback,weight on nose,intake height,driveline issues,etc.

why bother? Just build yourself a nice C5-R 427 and have an even better engine thats a direct drop-in.

2005 gm performance catalog[they don't offer a crate motor though, only bare parts to build one] is one place or you can contact katech[they build the c5r motor and caddy motors for pratt&miller],ECS,or any of the other vendors that build motors.

i was lookng at anouther site they said MTI, ARE, and Cartek are the best places to get a C5-R 427 built. They run from under $12k to more than $20k

Just get a LS2 stroked to 402ci and put a good flowing set of ETP heads on it. It will make gobs more power than a 502 crate motor and bolt right in... A well built 402LS2 will make 625+HP at the motor and 500+rwhp... Here is a good list of Vendors' forged shortblocks...So for under $10K it can be done...A&A corvettes and ECS both have real good reputations...

puttin a 502 or a 572 in a c5 vette would be like screwin a 90 year old *****....not worth it.

Unless, you were doing a complete drag car. Zdifferent rear end, and trans.

Now a c5r would bolt in nicely..and utilize the existing tunnel and such.
