Default Keyless fob's

I have a 99 vert and the keyless fob has the passive switch on it. My question is, can a I program a 2001-2004 keyless fob and use on my 99 vert? I do not use the passive switch and think it is a pain. The reason I ask is that the 2001-2004 fob's are much cheaper to buy than the one with the passive switch. Thanks much for all who respond!!

97-99 = Passive FOB
2000 = Unique to 2000s only
02-04 = thin fob

There is no way around it. I dont like my fob because the thing is huge.

not to hijack, but while were on the topic....Why did GM discontinue the passive feature on the fob's on the C5? It seems like a neat idea. I like what GM has done with the C6 keyless features including ignition.

Not sure, My brother's C4 had something similar to Passive. And i liked it. His fob was also thinner though.

Passive function is not cool. It seems like it is a good idea, but it is a pain in the ghoul. Set your keys on the counter and the darn car will lock and unlock itself without even moving. Beep. a few minutes later, beep. Plus I just never really trusted that it was really staying locked. Now my FOB only works with the passive fuction. So I am not using a fob anymore because I refuse to pay an arm and a leg for a new one. Don't really miss it either. They did away with it for a reason, it sucked.

I had a '93 with the passive FOB, I left the keys on the front seat and walked off, got locked out! The funny thing though was that I shook the heck out of the car, the keys slid down the leather seat and unlocked the car, just needed a little movement!

Now, without the passive I would have been locked out, but then again, without the passive I wouldn't have been locked out in the first place!

I keep it turned off on my '99. Plus, they tend to go through batteries a whole lot faster than a normal FOB does.
