I've only had my 2004 coupe for 5 months now and yesterday when I went to drive it the dash display displayed Traction Control Warming up (or something to that effect). I park my car on the 4th floor of a parking garage and by the time I made it down to 1 it said warmup complete.
My question is this, what the heck does that mean? Is it an actual temperature related display? I mean, it IS a LITTLE cooler here this time of year (50s - 60s in the am).
This is a fairly normal message, and occurs if you make a lot of sharp turns soon after startup.
The Active Handling system does a self-check every time you start the car, and if you quickly drive off, and make sharp turns, it inhibits these system checks, and it then displays this message....when it reperforms the checks (which is what it's doing while you see the warming up message), and hopefully you are driving straight for a little bit, you will soon see the "warm up complete" message, and all is well.
Nothing at all to worry about, and no, nothing at all to do with temperature..
I've seen it a handful of times on my 04. I'm always very easy on the car until it is warm (10 minutes or so). So while the sharp turns thing may be one cause I don't think that it is the only one. Regardless of the cause it does clear itself after a minute or two.

FWIW, this message NEVER showed on my DIC, until fall of '04. I have owned my car for 3 years and it never came on until the weather cooled off some (I live in Michigan). After I put the 427 in and got it up and running, say 10-05, it never came on this past fall ('05) at all, not one time. But when it did come on the year before, it would stay on for 10 or 15 minutes, as if it was actually warming up!! Go figure??
I've noticed that I get the warm up message everytime I back out of a driveway. It's only 40' long, but it doesn't go off if I pull out in 1st gear, only in reverse....

There is a very good description in an SAE paper how the C5 Stabiltrack system works. It describes how the system works to determine where straight ahead is so the computer knows what action to take in case an event takes place. To set the straight ahead position the car has to be driven over ~ 6 mph for a 100 ft in a straight line for the system to calibrate. Once this happens the system is set. If you are going around corners the system will give you the warming up message to let you know it is not ready for business. Everytime the ignition is cycled the system has to recalibrate itself.

Bingo! Whether you are parked upon a hill, or, proceed initially in reverse from a parked standstill: If the front wheels are cocked to either side, and, you move forward, or, back up while the steering wheel is cocked, the above active handling warming up warning prompt will display on the DIC. Once you have driven at least 100 feet, the warning will then display that it is resolved (AC warmed up, etc.).
Now, one way to avoid this is to be sure that when you park your vehicle, that you park and leave the car with the steering wheel straight. Of course, this cannot be avoided if you are parked up, or, down a hill. However, as mentioned above, this is not an actual mechanical, or, systems failure. It is simply the C5 Stabiltrack AH system recalibrating itself.
