LT Header Install - Realistically how long will it take?
Realistically how long can I expect to take?
Mike
I'll be getting out there bright and early. I do have a question - there is a threaded hole pretty close to the A.I.R. hookup on one of the primaries; what plugs in there?
Mick
things I found out
1. a 10 mm reversing ratchet wrench helps a lot on the header bolts.
2. a new pair of oem gasket ar nice to have
3. If they are old lg versions...I did mine without removing the steering shaft and spark plugs. but ya have to be careful
4. unhook battery, as starter needs to be lloosened,,,,watch the proximity of te wires, they can melt easy\\
5. I would install a heat shield on the starter if ya can get one for insurance
5. dont forget the ground strap on the drivers side
search and you will find more hints

Removing the driver's side exhaust manifold bolt on the far right was a pita. I was able to route the passenger side header in without removing the valve cover which was a relief. The driver's side was kind of a pain but once I moved the clutch line, ground wire and steering linkage out of the way it went in pretty easily from the bottom.
The most difficult part was getting everything lined up and sorted out. I got the entire system up and then after inspecting the donut gaskets at the powercats I realized that one of them wasn't seated properly. Soooo I took the entire system back down from the collector back. It turns out the gasket wasn't seated because one of the intermediate pipes was in backwards (front to back). There is a slight bend in the pipe that I failed to pay attention to until I had the entire system bolted up.
Once the system was bolted up correctly I had to route all four O2 sensors in such a way that they didn't come in contact or even close to the headers. Fabricating ways to keep these wires out of harms way took at least an hour.
Let me say that the end result was well worth the hours of hard work and frustration. The car sounds wicked! The resonance that was once somewhat overpowering with my B&B Bullets is gone! The car runs a lot smoother and sounds all around healtheir. My butt meter tells me I gained a good amount of power too. It seems like I gained most of my power in the midrange, it doesn't seem like I lost any power on the bottom end or gained too much on the top end. Maybe once I throw an intake on there I'll get a dyno tune.
I just wanted to thank Dynatech for putting together an amazing header package. The directions were clear and well written, the kit included everything from brand new manifold and flange gaskets to new header bolts and even zip ties! The build quality was superb as well - if you're on the fence about which system to buy Dynatech is the way to go.
