I'm about to drop my exhaust system to install the Elite Emgineering tunnel reinforcement. I was thinking that while I had it down, I might strip out the stuffings to the pre cats.
What effect does this have on performance???
If it picks up a HP or two, OK. But I don't want to loose one foot pound of low-end torque.
Any one done this?
I had my mechanic gut mine. Don't know the HP diff, but one would think that it helped in the breathing department. There was a thread on this site that stated 4 RWHP gain, but I don't know where the figure came from.
If you're gonna do it, do it the right way. Have the cats cut out and replaced with smooth pipe. While gutted cats improve flow over stock, straight pipe is much better. Gutted cats (my friend's Vette) gained 6 rwhp, straight pipe (my Vette) gained 15 rwhp over stock cats.
