Re: Car wont start after hypertech installed (Vinzvette)
It cannot be restarted if you remove it, once you plug it back in it resumes the last programming session and just wont finish. Can disconnecting the battery terminal help going back to stock.
Re: Car wont start after hypertech installed (Vinzvette)
Disconnecting the battery won't help. You need to have a program to write to the PCM and the only available programs are resident in the HPP3 unit. (It's like flashing the BIOS in your PC if you've ever done that.) Did it get as far as any of the light show stuff as it verifies itself? Have you successfully used this unit before or is this the first time you've tried to program with it?
Re: Car wont start after hypertech installed (Vinzvette)
Yes Ive had it about a year and this is the 7th time Ive reprogrammed. Now my battery is dying trying to start it. It got stuck in the "please wait varifying tuning" or something very close to that. I removed it turned the ignitionoff, then reconnected. Now it says waiting to communicate, turn key to run but do not crank the motor. I have sat there and watched do this for 15 mins. and it stays there. It flashs all kinds of warnings on the DIC, reduced engine power , service ABS, etc.
Re: Car wont start after hypertech installed (Vinzvette)
Cool. That means it's probably not a defective unit. My hunch is that it's a low voltage situation. These things don't like to be turned off mid-program and all, but they are designed to tolerate some of that kind of abuse. Do you have another battery you can "jump" it with?
Re: Car wont start after hypertech installed (Vinzvette)
I hope thats the problem. Actually this battery has been showing signs of dying. Ill get a jump tomorrow and go buy a new battery, then try to let it finish its job. Thanks for all of your help.
Re: Car wont start after hypertech installed (Vinzvette)
Man that hypertech is a piece of junk,
I bought and tested one and now its sitting and colllecting dust on a shelf.
It requires the battery voltage to be high with a fully charged battery and be sure the running lights are not on,
If you can not resolve it, sorry to say but since it did not complete, the checksum was never completed and thus the PCM flash is corrupted and only going to a dealer to reload stock code will resolve the problem.
I sure hope that is not the case but when I tested a unit it was clear any hiccup of voltage or protocol failure eats the code in the flash memory :(

I had these symtoms from Superchips (twice)... according to them, it means the unit is not finding a PCM program & therefore the PCM is not comunicating at all (crashed) & needs to be re-flashed... Lucky for me they're a local company & did it for me same day... But after it's happened twice, I've ordered a Powerloader.
Hopfully a dealer could also re-flash the PCM, It's not hard to remove (easier than arranging & worrying about towing IMO).
Re: Car wont start after hypertech installed (Vinzvette)
Got new battery installed and the hypertech is stuck at "waiting to communicate, turn key to on position but do not crank engine". So Im going to wait untill tomorrow morning and call Hypertechs tech support. I just hope they dont suck as bad as their product. :boxing
Re: Car wont start after hypertech installed (Vinzvette)
I had a very similar situation when they first came out. Hypertech offered to pay to have the vehicle flat-bedded to the dealership and repaired! The dealer received the vehicle and opted to replace the PCM under warranty.
Re: Car wont start after hypertech installed (Vinzvette)
DAP don't think Superchips is any better. I haven't posted about it yet but the Microtuner fried my computer too. I was at a dyno so I had to be towed home.
Super said to overnight the tuner and PCM which cost me $100 with insurance at the local Mailbox etc. They send me back a refurnished PCM and a check for $35 to cover my shipping charges. About a month later I received the Microtuner which I will be returning.
So the experince cost me $200 dollars for nothing plus the time to pull the computer while parked on the street.
:mad
Re: Car wont start after hypertech installed (Vinzvette)
Sent my PCM to Hypertech, they are going to reflash my computer to stock and check the hypertech for any problems. Again Ill have to adjust tire height
adjust for 3.42 rearend and the shifting points. Ill get it back Weds. which is not to bad, but it has been a big pain in the a$$. They are doing it for free as where the dealer wanted $450 ( out of warranty ). I just pray to God this does not happen again and I do not recomend this mod. :mad
