Default BCM Problems...please help

I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this. As of late, when I insert my key into the ignition and turn it to the on position, it does not recognize my memory settings, nor does it allow me operate the window buttons. Also in my DIC it does not allow me to change the auto lock feature or my easy seat entry feature. I have checked my fuses and all are good.

If I push the memory 1 button it will adjust my telescoping wheel, seat and mirrors, but will not upon inserting the key nor return the wheel back to the retracted position after I shut the car off or unlock my doors automatically.

This is a little unclear I am sure. I would venture to guess that it has something to do with the BCM communicating (either receiving or sending).

Can anyone help me out with this?

There are a couple of things that can cause the problems that you are having!! You also need to check the Left Door control module, Seat Control module and yes the BCM also has a BIG function in the memory game. The very first thing that you need to examine are the DTC Codes in the DIC!!! The codes will tell us a lot about what happening!

Examine the codes, write them down, post them and CLEAR ALL OF THEM.
Do what ever you need to do to cause the problem to happen again and read copy and post those codes!

If you dont know how to read the codes, check out this website:

This is the absolute best C5 Code web site!!!

http://www.corvettedoctor.com/Code_Main.html

http://www.corvettedoctor.com/index.html

If your 12 VDC main battery is weak, when you load it down, it can cause the memory functions to reset! That is something else to consider.

Okay, this is a little wierd. I need to preface this by saying I did take it a Corvette repair shop this morning and they looked at it and set me up for a appointment on Monday. I don't know if they did anything or not but this may be something they did, but I would appreciate any advice.

I checked the codes and only one showed up.

99-HVAC U1160 H C

Apparently I have "Lost communication to XXX" according to the Corvette Doctor website. Which I would also assume that I have lost communication to the HVAC (air conditioner/heater etc...right?)

But what is even more strange is that for:
AO-LDCM
A1-RDCM
A6-SCM
It states "NO COMM." for each. Could the dealer have pulled the fuses for each of those? I have never seen this before.

So obviously I have lost communication for all the above said problems. Are these multiple problems or are they all linked somehow?

Again, any help would be great. Thanks

{EDIT}
Okay I just did some reasearch, and found that the loss of communication could be a direct result of when I accidentally left my dome light on and drained my battery down. So would the next step be to do a load test on the battery to make sure that I have more than 9 DVC? DO I need to also check all my grounds? Could that have caused it too?

Thanks again.

Its most likely NOT your BCM!!! I had the same issue and it turned out to be a problem with the drivers side door connectors!! They are located in the drivers foot well behind the kick panel. The plastic panel that the hood release is attached to comes out. The door wiring harnesses (2) are wrapped in ORANGE Tape. The door connectors have a been known to have problems. Wiggle and twist the connectors and see if that changes the problem. My driver side door functions, seat functions and memory functions quit working while I was at Carslie PA this summer (Yes it was raining!!) so I had to do emergency surgery. Take the connectors apart and inspect the male and female pins. They have been known to corrode oand or burn up!! The wires even pull out of the connectors!

Have someone press and hold the window up or window down switch while you minulpiate the connectors. If they are intermittent, you will see the door start working again. if it's not the connectors, examine the seat control module under the seat. The wiring and connectors under there are easily damaged!

Is there a diagram that shows all the grounding points? When I purchased the car, I was not given a owners manual. I don't know if that would show it or not. Just curious. I heard that there were 13 grounding points, but I have no idea where they are located.

The owners manual DOES NOT have any of this information in it. You would need to look in the service manuals. fortunetly, you have all uf us for support and here is a link that I did a while back that has all of that info in it:

Thanks Bill, that is a huge help. I think I sent you a PM but not sure if it went through. One last question for now. How do you remove the protective sill to get to the LDCM by the hood rease? Do you have to remove the foot rest? I couldn't find any screws that were holding it in and it seems pretty secure. Does the whole thing come off all the way up to the seat or is there a little hatch that comes off that just exposes the connections?

Thanks again Bill, you are a huge help and a great reason why I love this forum.

You need to pull up the sill plate protective plastic cover. Omce it is removed you will find screws around the hood release. Just start lifting straight up from the center. There are three plastic tabs with metal retainer clips that will POP out of three slots in the door sill.
