Default Tire pressure sensor question

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find out by searching...

My display said that my left rear tire was running low on pressure and indicated 24lb. After driving the car around for awhile, the pressure went up to about 25lb. I put more air in, and with the engine off, just turned the key enough to check the readings. The pressure reading still says 25lb, but my old school handheld tire pressure gauge reads 30lb. Do I need to drive around for awhile before I get an accurate reading? Or is something wrong with the sensor?

In a word yes. It might take a while for it to accept the new reading.

You would be surprised at the lack of accuracy on "Old School" pressure gauges. As part of ISO we have to calibrate all our tire gauges periododically. We find variation in air pressure gauges often. If driving didn't make the difference between the two readings more similar, I would try using a KNOWN accurate pressure gauge.

When the tires are not rotating the TPS go into a off line mode which saves battery life. Once the tires rotate at a a specified RPM or tire rotational speed, they wake up and start transmitting.

When I change tire pressure, 3 tires register within the first minute. The fourth (front right) always takes at least 10 minutes to update. Don't know why - just the way it is.

Point taken, but the difference between the hand held gauge and the sensor is not insignificant -- about 7 lbs. initially after re-filling the tire. Additionally, the lack of change on the sensor after adding air would indicate a sensor problem to me.

I just drove my son to school this morning, never exceeding more than 45 MPH. So far, the pressure sensor is reading 26 lbs. I'll keep an eye on it.
