Default Adding a Trans or Diff Temp Sensor to a MN6

My understanding is that the Z06 and export cars with 6 speeds have a transmission fluid temp sensor where the fluid fill plug is. The trans temp is only displayed on the DIC after a high temp warning (above 270).

I would like to add a trans temp sensor to the MN6 on my 01 coupe. From what I've read the wiring isn't on my car to plug in a factory sensor. So, I was thinking of just adding an aftermarket electrical temp sensor. Has anyone done this?

I would like to know what size sensor would be needed to replace the fill plug and where would be a good place to run the wring. Also, I find it odd that the factory sensor goes in the fill plug and not the drain plug. Wouldn't the drain plug be more completely covered in fluid? Or is the fluid splashing around so much under use that the fill plug works fine?

I'm also thinking of doing the same for the diff so if anybody has any experience with that please let me know. Thanks

Good Question. Actully repost this question in the General Corvette - AUtoX and Road racing forum. Guys over there do a lot of these things

I would also like the temp gages. In most cases they arn't necessary unless you are running hard track days or consistant canyon runs in hot climates.

I have a trans cooler , but no gage.

I've been playing with this for a while. I purchased the SPA designs temp/temp gauge.
http://www.spa-uk.co.uk/design/dualgauges.asp

The issues I kept having:
1) Everyone want to just tell you to get a cooler and not anwer your question.
2) Where to insert the temp probe? I planned on drilling out some drain plugs, but did not want to give up my magnetic diff/tranny plugs as they catch a lot of metal on them.

Here is the thread where this question was posed:

Thanks for the reply. So you have yet to install the temp sensor? Couldn't you put it in the fill plug instead of the drain plug as that's where the factory trans sensor is?

Contact Doug at ECS. He installed a Transmission Oil Temperature Sensor in my MN6 (in the differential), which required some fabrication. Works perfect!
