Fans have 2 speeds. Low and high speed. The PCM command low speed fans ON at 226 and OFF at 217 and high speed fans ON at 235 and OFF at 219.

I did a search just now and one thread said this: "The stock fan settings are Fan 1 = ON @ 226, OFF @ 219. Fan 2 = ON @ 235, OFF @ 227"

Its not much different than what vett747 said, not sure which one is correct.

Oh, and when your air conditioner is turned on so are your high speed fans. If your engine is getting too hot for YOUR comfort (idling in traffic), and your air conditioner is off, you can always turn it on to cool down engine.

Never thought of that, although I don't currently have any issues, I just installed a new radiator and refilled the car after a heads/cam install and the car got up to 225 and no fans came on. I just thought they came on sooner, I never really looked at that before.

Maybe it depends on the year. I got it from my 97 shop manual.

Yes. I know. I saw that in your profile yesterday on your post about tranny oil cooler installation. I plan to do it and I think I will do the same thing. I do not like rubber hoses. And I see you like bike too.

I love it. The new aluminum frame makes the bike more maneuverable than the previous one. The center of gravity has been lower since a lot of the frame top part was replace by aluminum. Makes is also easier to move it in the air on small and big jumps. This is a 2 stroke. They improved suspension as well. I can race with the stock suspensions. This is an awesome bike.

I heard a lot of good things about the improved handling. I also hear it has lots of torque. I mostly ride 4 strokes, I don't MX, just ride the trails, small tracks, etc. My KLX300 is a screamer though. I can bring it up in 3rd, and all I have done is to add a White Brothers pipe. My son rides the Yamaha 225, he's just a beginner. I can't ride that bike, too slow, soft squishy handling, no suspension, etc. Good learners bike, not for be.

This is exactly what I do and it works perfectly. In the winter when the a/c doesn't come on, the engine never gets over 210F anyway, so no need for the fans.

I would like a mod with which I could switch the fans on manually via a dashboard switch, but I think there is none like that available.

AWSUM Info - I had mine running last night, it got up to 219 coolant temp, the fans didn't kick in, so I came looking for the answer today - here it is!!

Mine's a 2001, and I couldn't find the info in the shop manual last night (anyone else think that the shop manual index for these cars STINKS?) -

I'm wondering approximately what page and section of the '97 shop manual Vette747 found the info in?

It looks like they've changed the formula a time or two throughout the C5 years. In the 2004 Service Manual, the info is a couple of pages from the end of the "Engine Cooling" part of Section 6, Engine (page 6-433, to be exact).

For the 2004 model, the manual says lo speed on at 226, off at 219; hi speed on at 235, off at 226. Both fans run in series for lo speed and run in parallel for hi speed. With ac on, fans run at lo speed if coolant temp is above 185 and vehicle speed is less than 35 mph.

As an additional bit of info: Using the Diablosport Predator, I have changed my fan settings -- lo speed on at 209, off at 200; hi speed, on at 219, off at 210. These settings seem to be a good compromise between temperature stability and fan life. Thermostat is stock; runs 192 to 196 on the road.

The 2002 service manual does not have the specific temps either, but I know mine came on about the same as the numbers posted above.

FYI, my 02 service manual does have a detailed description of the fan circuit, and at least for the 02s, but I suspect all of them, the fans are low speed and high speed as indicated in the 04 manual, (not one on then two on as was asked way above).
