Been using the Nesco Auto Computer Memory Unit for years in all my C5's whenever i need to disconnect car battery....just attach 9v battery & plug it into lighter so the computer maintains memory.... clock, radio settings, etc. Never had any problems with it...works as intended. But recently in one of the Vette Catalogs I noticed it says "not for use in C5 Vettes." Anyone know why?? Very curious.
I've disconnected my battery a few times and have never experienced loss of station or other settings memory. Perhaps the 01s and newer have a capacitor or small battery that saves this stuff?
You may not be able to use it for any length of time. There are a lot of devices that need power to keep settings in memory and the little 9V battery may not have enough power to handle the current draw.
Has anyone tried something like a small 12V motorcycle battery to plug into the cig lighter or accessory tap?
