you can reuse the stock bolts if you want. Studs are a bad idea due to the fact it would be harder to take on and off, and they are not needed.
If i replace them, i just go to home depot and but the 6mm x 1.25 pitch and use a lock washer, and that works fine. There is not that much torque on the bolt 25lbs or weight put on the headers so and extreme bolt is not needed in my opinion. Grade 8's are cheap enough i would just use those if you want to replace them

Studs all the way if you are willing to spend the money. I put in two studs, hung the gaskets, put in the heads, hung the headers and then installed the rest of the studs.
Take a search on how many people have cross-threaded their bolts, studs are fully threads into the head with no risk to cross-thread and you have full engagement when you do tighten the header in place
Try the Breslin cam lock's. Used them on 3 cars now and they are great!
I use stainless steel Breslin split locks and love them. The only thing that I don't like is their web site, it requires you to have flash before you can see anything! I wanted something stainless just to be sure they didn't rust, and I liked the split lock idea so I bought the Breslin. If your using factory metal exhaust gaskets (highly recommended) the factory bolts work well and normally will never come loose. If your using any other kind of gasket you better get some locking bolts because they will get loose as the gaskets give and move under the header flanges. The factory GM gaskets will not compress any more once they are tight and therefore the bolts will not work loose like other types of gaskets. Like said above, the header bolts are very easy to cross thread in these aluminum heads, be sure you turn the bolts at least two turns into the head with your finders before you turn them with a wrench. If you feel them get tight, STOP, back up and be sure they are not cross threaded.
If you are using factory GM exhaust gaskets, be sure you are using the older round port style and not the newer oval port gaskets. You can order the gaskets for a 1999 C5 coupe and you will get the round port gaskets.
When I installed my longtubes I reused my original manifold bolts with lockwashers and the original manifold gaskets. It's been 2 years with no problems at all.

I've had the stainless ones on my Avalanche for over three years now and haven't had any problems. I retorqued them after about a week and they have remained tight with no leaks.
