Default New Computer Chip

a buddy of mine was tellin me about a chip i can buy for my 2001 coupe (M6) - he said it would add about 20% HP, and said it would run me about $250. He also said that there were no bad consequences to this upgraded chip - what is a good brand? what are the facts? where do i get one, how much HP can i expect, etc...? thanks in advance

You shouldn't expect any HP gain...if you did it would be 0-5hp. The main point of the chip is to improve shifting of the A4 (automatic) and adjust the speedo for new gears. Since you have a Manuel..it serves no purpose at all

There are no "chips" to replace on the C5 like in older cars. The system can be reprogrammed only, and in some cases a piggyback setup.

20% increase seems like :bs

As pointed out, NO WAY. Most aftermarket tuning methods for electronic f.i. simply lean out what is often a rich mixture, supplied that way from the factory for safety sake. Some chips, etc. make minor timing advancements, as well. The C-5 must run superlean from the factory to get the gas mileage it does. And, if you run TOO lean te results are mucho worse than too rich, I assure you; you go BOOM and have the opportunity to buy that new '02 Z06, 405 hp engine. Monkeying with the electronics is not for the fainthearted or the half-informed. Don't ask how I know; just check out some on the forum who have tried. Again, speed costs MONEY, how fast do you want to go? Best of luck.
